Hey Kevin, I forgot to mention to be aware of signing a contract that states you may be required to team drive for a specified amount of time before going solo.
I'm not talking about team driving while with a trainer. That is something you may have to do as part of your training. I'm talking about once you have made it beyond training and have been upgraded to solo driver status.
When talking to companies, especially the smaller companies, ask about their freight lanes. How much broker freight do they carry? Some broker freight is not bad, but too much is a liability in a poor economy. Do they run all 48? Or regional? And if they go to NYC and is it forced dispatch. Do they have any partnerships with other companies to help move freight.
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
