I don't care. If the time ever comes that all trucks will be electric and or self driving, I probably won't be alive to see it.
Welp...Looks like we are not out of the weeds:

Like Big Scott said, this is so far from a real issue for most of us, it's not worth my energy to focus on it. I am not exactly old, but I am not looking at driving for more than 10-12 more years. I could end up in a dispatch or load planning role in half that time, so who knows. Self-driving truck putting me out of a job? Not a concern in the slightest.
It's part of a narrative that's larger than just driving a truck. Partial and fully autonomous trucks will come to fruition, and more rapidly than most of us realize. The push is from leftist doctrine that hates internal combustion engines, independent individuals and personal freedom, in short, Marxists.
Technology and implementation are a progressive curve, they rise at a progressive rate. Basically if you can purchase it, it's already obsolete.
The best that we can do now is to get behind legislators that are banning testing and implementation of autonomous trucking.
Yes, it is coming, yes it will be rolled out too soon and will fail many times but it will happen and sooner than many realize. There's little that we can do to change it on an individual basis though.

I disagree, especially in this economy. Most (if not all) of these companies rely on investments and loans. That's not happening right now because you can get a guaranteed return on your investment with a savings account. I think it's somewhere around 4 or 5 percent right now and the interest rates on loans are too high for these companies to swallow and that's if the bank is willing to lend it.

I agree with that, but wanting something and it being possible are 2 different things. Think of everything you do on a daily basis and now try automating it. That's everything from a pre/post trip, to detours to fueling. The infrastructure is what makes this impossible. The technology of the truck is easy, it's everything else. Even California had to limit the charging on EVs.... Now imagine trucks needing to get charged. If it happens anywhere first, it's California and they can't even handle cars.

Legislators are about money. They're worse than the corporate execs because they do it under of the guise of caring. There weren't too many of them willing to stand up and prevent that COVID vaccine, why would this be any different? This push didn't even come from legislators, it came from the appointed bureaucrats of the EPA.
Just remember, these Utubbers get more hits and views when they have controversial topics.
Someone who is 21 and jumping into trucking now, may have something to worry about before they retire. However, anyone smart with their money won't have to worry. I don't expect to see a road full of self driving vehicles in my lifetime. There is way too much needed for it to work.

Ooooh! Can I play too?
The Right hate science, want our prisons filled with minorities, would like to give guns to any lunatic who wants one, and would love to spit in the face of Immigrants who are not from Northern European countries.
Did I do good? I'm not sure bc I'm kind of new to using such broad strokes to paint an image of people who do not think exactly like I do. Plus I know the comment I just made is utterly ridiculous.
I'm not trying to be a **** or cause friction. Just trying to show what a comment might look like if expressed from the opposite side.
No offense taken. But the statements are unequivocally different. The primary difference is that the left has stated their aim is to rid the world of the internal combustion engine and oil usage. In fact, that is the express purpose behind their fight against global climate change.
Again, much of the left has publicly stated that they aim to remove drivers from vehicles and that they want all electric vehicles.
The difference between our statements is that yes, the left is that insane in both policy and stated goals. The right has never stated they don't use scientific principles and or the scientific method. In fact, it was the left that insisted we take absolutely insane measures to combat the plandemic and it turned out those measures were fundamentally unscientific and ridiculously emotionally driven.
