So I haven't done this myself but I've seen it used in other situations.

Has anyone used smelling salts? Just a curious question.

I luckily have someone who stays up all night i talk to on the phone and mix that with very loud off key shrieking/singing helps me.

Smelling salts? I’d like to know more about this, pro or con.

Find other night shift buddies you can talk to on the phone at night. Stay hydrated, don’t eat big meals, use caffeine more as a last resort, and get good sleep during the day as well as you can.

If I may be frank though, all of these things are absolutely worthless if you’re already sleepy. The hard truth is that it take TIME to get used to driving at night regularly. You typically have to condition yourself to driving at night. If you get sleepy, pull over and sleep.

If there’s one life saving tip I could give you that I almost learned the hard way, it’s that once your eyes start closing you’ve already pushed it too far. Don’t think you can make it to the next exit two miles away—pull over NOW.
