Hello everyone,

I just completed week two of SQUIRE training at Knight. Week 1 was all company orientation and processing which went very well. Week 2 was actually on the range which has gone well also. I came to knight with prior CDL training at a private school which i didnt complete due to active duty recall a few years ago.

So I basically knew my PTI and air brake test already. I could drive the rig around the range without grinding have not driven in over 2 years. What I REALLY needed work in was my offset parking to the left. My initial problem was that I would hold my initial turn too long and get a bad start angle, and would ride the clutch. Instuctor, (great instructor by the way) told me what I was doing wrong and afterwards was putting it in the box cleanly.

I'm due to get some road time with a trainer in the coming weeks so Ill be good for my CDL examine which I have to teake in my home state of VA which consists of a straight back and curve back for skills.

About the school here. The school is run pretty well. Right now there are two range instructors so the teacher student ratio can build from week to week. The school uses 2 Volvos.. I know that one is a 2011. Each person is assigned their own dbl hotel room which serves breakfast. Lunch is provided during the first week of orientation. The hotel is decent. Its caters to a few trucking companies so its not used much by regular visitors. There are a few hotels, a waffle house, and two restaurants in walking distance. Walmart is a $20 cab ride one way so be prepared.

Overall the program is decent. You job is to get in and out so that you can get on the road and start earning.

Hey how is it going with Knight? I'm torn between Swift and Knight but leaning more towards Knight. Any more stories, advice, suggestions etc...will be very helpful. Thank you!

After a lot of research and much thanks to TT, I've narrowed it down to Knight or Roehl. Both have great programs and seem to be decent companies so I'll think about it a bit more before making the final decision. Roehl seems to be better all in all but I live in Indy and not only does Knight have a school here, getting home time should be a bit earlier.

I'm not the type to complain about being home every night of the week, I know the industry a bit as I currently drive a straight truck. Being a dad who doesn't have full custody, I cherish the time with the kiddo and Knight might be a bit easier to make those weekends available. If anyone has any more info on Knight, I'm always willing to pay attention.

I have done some research and chose to go with Knight. I am starting orientation on the 2nd of March in Kansas City. Then the following week I will be starting school in Indianapolis. I am nervous but excited as well. I have been reading a lot on this web site and have learned a lot about what I am getting into. I was wondering what Harold L. is doing now? Are you still with Knight? Has everything been going the way it was explained or were there any surprises?

This is the story of most Company schools - get in then get out. Makes for an immense pressure to perform on you. How is Knight/SQUIRE for when you fail an eval? Do they offer some sort of second chance? I've read many posts here where people are afraid if they fail, they just go home.

I went with Swift, and every evaluation comes with a second, and even third chance, though of course they work with you and want you to get it the first time.
