Good luck Erine. Thanks for the help you gave me a while back. Hope everything works out for you.

You are welcome. I am sure all will be fine.
Just found out that JB Hunt has a $2500 sign on bonus (that had nothing to do with my decision by the way). Just another incentive to try and get drivers.

Hey that's awesome Ernie! You getting on with a dedicated or regional account of some sort? What made you go with JB?
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
JB Hunt is a nice place to work. I have been driving dedicated with them out of Terrel Texas for about two months almost and I can see a huge difference already between them and my last company CRE.
They really take care of their drivers, I have no complaints with them.
Glad to hear the good new Ernie!
You're getting a good job, and J.B. Hunt is getting a smart dependable driver. Sounds like everybody wins on this one!

Brett, I am signing on as an OTR driver. Out 14 days, in 2 days. Will keep my eyes open for a dedicated run when one opens up.
The reason I went with JB Hunt is because of the great review I got from GuyJax.
Old School, I sure hope so. The last try did not turn out too well.

A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
First day done.
First thing in the morning we did a lot of paperwork. Then it was off to get the physical done. After the physical it was lunch time.
After lunch I was finally able to get my road test completed. As usual, we had several folks that could not follow directions. So that held us up a couple of times. I suspect that some of the folks in my orientation class will not last much past the next day or so because of not listening & being on time.
Just really standard stuff through out the day. Nothing really special that we did. Tomorrow I will update with what the day was like. I do not see anything special happening here either. But that we will see.

The account open postings are far and few between. Mainly at the HQ. I was otr there when I first started. You might do a few Pop Up accounts. That is where they call in otr to help out dedicated if they need help. Pretty sweet deal especially if you get on the C&S account. But those are just temp help outs.
One thing to note. You will have your assigned DM depending on the account your on. Each account t has a DM that way you don't have one dm trying to track 50 trucks doing 50 different accounts. Each DM on dedicated handles only that account so if you get a dedicated account and have a question you should not get the "Hang on and let me check with someone that might know". Pretty efficient I think.
I will warn ya ahead of time. One of Georgia Pacific pickup and drop points is Big Island Va. You might or might not get through there.
Three things you have to remember about that place.
1 it's in the middle of a mountain valley so absolutely no cell phone or Internet signal there. Have to use the phone at the guard shack. Be prepared to entertain yourself while there. Dvd movies and the like. Only reason you would spend the night there is if you did not have the hours to make it out of the mountains. About 46 to 50 miles to Roanoke Va.
2 before you go there be sure to stop and get whatever you want to eat or drink. Vending machine sucks there. The one store in town that you can get a big truck into in No Overnight Parking and they are serious about that to.
And the last thing and the most important thing. The are only 2 truck routes into there. One from the north and one from the south. Any other road is a $275 dollar fine. The directions on the qualcomm will be accurate. And once you make it to GP in Big Island they have all the directions on a hand out to and from the place. Make sure to get a copy.
Anyway you might or might not go there but I know there are alot of JB drivers that do go there and they learn this all the hard way.

Thanks Guy, I appreciate the info. Will keep that in mind should I get lucky enough to get on that account.

Leave this afternoon to go to orientation in E Brunswick NJ.
Our long lost LEO Steve M is coming over to my house to give me a ride to the bus station so that I don't have to take my P/U truck over to the bus terminal and then my wife would have to go get it later.
Hope to give everyone updates as orientation goes along.

Terminal:
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
