Davy's info is sound biologically speaking. You can take it even further by adding pheromones into the mix. It has been argued that scent (subconciously) plays a huge roll in who we are attracted to.

What is kissing besides an adapted method of exchanging scent by being close to the area of each other's faces where pheremones are highly concentrated...the sides of the nose. Ever wonder why dogs and cats like to get up in your face and sniff? They are seeking that familiar, comforting scent that reinforces the fact that you are you.

Some people might not like to hear it, but there have been experiments that show that when a person smells a cotton ball that has been exposed to another person's "scent" parts of the brain associated with sexual stimulation become more active. Even if the person doing the smelling can't actually smell anything. Furthermore the brains of people who are attracted to same sex partners are more highly stimulated by the scents produced by members of the same sex.

We are human though. We have the ability to override the impulses that instinct may seek to arouse. That is, we can control our behavior and act "normal" around people we are attracted to.

By the way, this has become a very weird topic of conversation for a trucking forum rofl-2.gif

It is interesting though!

NaeNae had every right to feel uneasy and her privacy being invaded. She didn't ask for any help and the guy just should have asked if she needed any before just proceeding.

This would have made the entire interaction a different scenario.

Saying "I think we picked up at shipper xyz, right?" Instead of "I saw you in a red shirt, black jeans, and purple chucks."

Many have missed the point and the nuance between the two. One is completely nonthreatening and acknowledges seeing me before. The other is a creepy red flag.

As for the Brad Pitt comment, well, he's kind of a turn in real life, soooo, his attraction is a moot point.

Guys, I'm not saying to never offer help. I'm not even saying to ignore the fact that you have seen someone before. Just be aware that what you consider "friendly banter" could put women on their guard.

Also, just bloody ask before touching anything!

This whole thread is, well...strange to me. It's caused me to laugh and ponder.

1. I think it's sad we gotta be fearful of someone taking help (albeit unsolicited) as anything other than kindness.

2. What kind of weirdo tells you what color clothes you were wearing, when you last met?

While I'm a little territorial about my equipment, I'm not gonna go freaking out if some driver starts lowering my landing gear for me, and I've done the same for others. But, I sure ain't gonna comment on what you were wearing last time I saw you either...well, unless it was a funny T-shirt or something.

It seems we denigrate chivalry, yet wonder where all the alpha males went. Some of us, at times, make an inappropriate comment and then get angry if someone points it out.

Maybe, we just gotta take two really deep breaths and just be grateful. :)

Honestly Realdiehl I’m not calling you a liar but where on earth did you read that these studies were done? I’d love to read them. They sound absolutely outrageous.

This discussion is interesting and valuable from the standpoint of what is proper behavior. In our society where more and more “anything goes”, I like to see some focus on decency in human interactions.

I think that in generations past it was more common for people to actually think before speaking and acting. We see a decrease in human decency all the time. The trucking industry is just one example, perhaps even an industry that is below average in this area.

So even though this discussion might be a little strange, it has been educational.

No worries Bird-One. Nothing wrong with a little skepticism.

I Learned these things by listening to a professor from Stanford University named, Robert Sapolsky. He teaches Behavioral Biology and Behavioral evolution at the school.

He has a whole semester worth of actual classes he teaches at Stanford. Each lecture is a separate video.

The videos are available on YouTube. Very interesting stuff. Even coming from a professor, there are probably still plenty of academics who dispute some of the topics he covers in his classes. It is science afterall, and today's science is only as accurate as the results of further experimentation and research prove it to be...or not to be.

RealDiehl's reply ("I Learned these things by listening to a professor from Stanford University named, Robert Sapolsky.") is good enough for the usual Bull Session as we have here. Many times I have gotten together the original research to back up my postings on TT. So, for fun, I'm backing up R.D. This research is published and held on the web site named Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute, an international library of research papers.:

Jeez, Errol! Looks like you went above and beyond here. I hope you at least enjoyed reading the paper and gained some personal satisfaction from learning about the subject.

Dr. Sapolsky also discusses similar experiments to the ones mentioned in the link you provided. How certain smells, sounds, room temperatures, etc. can have an affect on how receptive we are to new ideas, making friends, being generous, etc.

Without getting too long-winded he talks about how some of our senses are cross-wired in the brain. For example, an expression of disgust on our faces from seeing or hearing about something we consider distasteful, is the same as the expression of disgust from eating or Smelling something distasteful. Totally different senses, but the same reaction.

There's also some studies showing ekg and other tests in regards to biochemical changes in males and females interactions. They all showed marked changes, if I recall correctly, even visually with males but also all the senses to some degree. Interesting stuff.
