I watched a video about which states have the roughest roads. There is actually an International Roughness Index and states are rated on the basis of this Index known as the IRI.

Here is there list of the 10 states with the roughest roads:

10) New Jersey

9) Michigan

8) Louisiana

7) Massachusetts

6) Hawaii

5) New York

4) Wisconsin

3) Nebraska

2) Rhode Island

1) California

I was somewhat surprised that California’s roads are rated the worst. But I’ve never driven a truck on California roads either.

Also surprised that Indiana wasn’t in the top ten.

They should have made a list of the BEST road states, the list would be very short, surely not even a top 10 hahaha

Driving I-70 in Indiana between Indianapolis and the Ohio state line should be considered cruel and unusual punishment.

Truer words have never been spoken. That is like being inside a popcorn popper on a roller coaster all at once.

My assignment has that routing, but I’m able to change it to take 65 up to I80 and avoid that part of I70.

With this job, I run into, out of and through all of California. Their roads really aren't bad at all.

I consider New Mexico and Arizona as BAD States to drive through because their roads are so rough. The last trip going to get my meat load, I made the post about bobtailing....that just really cemented in my mind how bad Arizona and New Mexico roads are.

I'm heading west with this load to the Port of Oakland and hope that is the last time I have to drive down across here. For as much snow as Wyoming got last winter as well as Donner, I am surprised how quickly and how good the roads in those areas have been fixed.

I drive US and State highways in Nebraska getting my meatloads and I don't consider their roads bad at all either.

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

I 40 through AZ and NM is just completely fubar. CO, 70 over Eisenhower and Vail is inexcusable, the ruts are horrible. US 50 over monarch pass is 3rd world. And the reconstruction going on is insane, it's a one lane dirt road outside of Gunnison. As mentioned, most of Indiana is atrocious. Another Colorado issue is I 25 and 70 through the front rage cities, Denver, Colorado Springs, Loveland fort Collins, it's antiquidated, most 2 lanes each side, resulting in backups worse than LA.

I'm a skeptic. If Indiana isn't in the top 10 this list is compromised. rofl-3.gif
