Just out of curiosity, what type of driving does that Alaska gig consist of? What can a driver make in 5 months driving up there and is there a demand for what you do?
That sounds like a great arrangement to me, though what are the odds that there would be drivers wanting to do it? Maybe if companies kept a list of folks who would be interested, and then match them up, but why would they go to that effort if they don't need to? Maybe when drivers are in short supply again.

In recent years I have been working an average of 5 summer months a year in Alaska and taking the rest of the year off. Helps not to have a big nut every month. If drivers could work 6 months on and 6 off or 3 months on and 3 off do you think there are a lot of experienced drivers on the sidelines who would get back in the game? Basically take two drivers slip seating one truck throughout the year. Called Werner and Schneider to see if this is an option for an experienced driver and the answer was NO. I understand that if you are already working for a carrier and they are happy with you-----they will try to work with you== to accommodate your needs...
