Chris, how long did you drive?
Chris, how long did you drive?
I went trough 4 weeks of there training then I drove with a TE for a week then I was out for a week solo with no incidents. I only have 4000. miles. I have 0 tickets 0 accidents nor do I drink or do Drugs.
Chris, how did they know you picked up your phone?
I know how strict Schneider is about cell phone usage when driving. I also know many drivers cheat the system and do things like carry a second phone with a number Schneider doesn’t know about.
You can appeal the firing with Schneider. That might be worth pursuing and then stay with Schneider if you can. With so little experience, it might be hard to find another job right away. Don’t go away without a sincere effort to appeal their decision. Be very clear you are sorry and have learned the lesson. Good luck.
This is one of those posts where we are not getting the entire story. As Larry alluded to, 'safety' is not going to call a driver; even if they were going to, they would access your HOS first and see that you were driving, and would refrain from making the call. 'Safety' is not going to bait you into answering your phone so that they could fire you. Let's say I'm wrong and 'safety' did call you... what prompted the three calls? I have heard of drivers getting let go because they were on the phone, but in each instance they were seen on the phone while driving, either at the entry gate to a Schneider yard (where there are cameras) or while driving around the Schneider yard.
If you want to pursue a career in driving, apply everywhere, be grateful for the opportunity (don't be picky), and when you find a job, honor their rules. It's their truck, their equipment, their risk, their rules.
I got called into the office for some "coaching" after a driver cam caught me lifting up the phone to look at the google map. Not fired, though.
picking up the cell phone ... even thou I was not holding the phone. It was mounted to the dash
So what did you pick up?
I'm so glad to see some Schneider people responding to this. It's one of those head-scratchers that makes us wonder what really happened. It's also disturbing to think a person could actually speak with the safety people and still not fully understand what the issue is.
Personally, I'm thinking he knows there's more, but doesn't want it to affect our advice. Just a note here for the OP and others considering asking us for advice. Give us as much accurate information as you can. That will always help you get the help you need.
I got a call from safety one morning, because during my night shift, they seen my cell screen reflection on the windshield in the front facing camera. I told em yeah? I have my you-tube tunes on while driving, but don't touch it driving! I did look and yup, ya do see a reflection.
He said yeah, we saw you wasn't touching it etc, just saying maybe use another site that can run with the screen off lol Forget maybe he said Pandora? so fixed that problem, just put/taped a piece of notebook cardboard hanging over, to block the reflection in the windshield glass...Never touched it, ever, while driving, just my play list up, and rolled.
Im assuming there was more to it as well, but maybe for the benefit of the doubt, assuming he meant answering the call by "picking it up". If that was the case, Im assuming that Schnieder possibly has a no phone use policy? But even not withstanding, If youre doing something or did something so bad that safety is breaching their own policy, Im guessing that theres still more to the story.
Again, its the same advice in this market. Trying to get hired after a phone policy violation is probably going to be pretty difficult. Not going to find many companies that will take the risk, there are too many highly qualified drivers available.
