They probably are. Our tractors are leased also.
I meant lease operators like their vans are.
The gray Amazon branded trucks are basically an affiliate of Amazon.
Amazon purchased the trucks then leased them out to a carrier, who runs under amazon’s insurance and authority and of course their freight. The affiliate basically bought a franchise with amazon.

So the drivers of those trucks are not Amazon employees, correct?
That is correct. Usually on the bottom of the door you’ll see the company name. A lot of the Amazon tractors out here run under a company named Geneva Transport.

Driving through TN the other day I came up behind an Amazon trailer. It’s not real common for me to overtake an Amazon trailer because those independent contractors usually drive like the devil is chasing them. So I saw that this trailer was being pulled by an official Amazon conventional sleeper OTR tractor. Amazon color, Amazon logo. Then in AR I saw another one.
My question is if Amazon is gradually moving away from the independent contractor to a private fleet? Maybe following the Walmart transportation model? Just curious if this is a trend.
