Howdy!

At almost 73 I don't try to climb in to any kind of trailer from the DOT bar. I carry a step ladder with four steps on it strapped to my catwalk and use that to get in and out of a trailer. Broken bones take a long time to heal anymore. Fortunately, I don't have to get into a trailer, especially a dry van , too very often.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Most have a handle on the right hand side once the door is open, make sure its latched and secured.

I'm athletic and slim as well as 6 ft tall. I have no problem getting in or out of em. Some mansard bars have a ladder of sorts.

Some trailers I'll leave one door closed and use that as a handle. Usually though I just climb on up and jump out.

I use a Dewalt cordless leaf blower most of the time to clean out.

Like Laura, I have to use a ladder, my knees won’t let me do it freestyle.

I also carry a rope with me that I use to tie the bottom of the ladder to the DOT bumper so the bottom doesn’t kick out when I’m climbing it. Sometimes I don’t need the rope, but most times I use it.

We take our trailers to washouts enough that the need for me to climb in is seldom.
