It's going to be tough if you're not even working for same trucking company. Luclily when I met the trucker I wanted to spend the rest of my life with drove for the same company but it was hard getting the time to see each other. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.

I dated a trucker and we did not work for the same company. Its exactly like a long distance relationship and requires work, trust and understanding. We managed to see each other about once a month when our loads coincided sometimes more. However we both typically ran the NE region so PA was always a meeting point. It will be tough but can be done.

I have friends, who are married, and each have their own trucks, and work for the same company...and don't see each other but once a month...so its really no different...its just logistics...

who do you work for? coming from a female trucker, how do the guys treat you? i come from a long line of otr truckers. my mom was one. i know i get the same looks. is she a spouse or lot lizzard? have you had any issues?

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

I work for WEL Companies out of DePere, WI. I enjoy being a trucker but you have to work twice as hard for the same recognition. I have been confused witb a lot lizzard, the cleaning lady, office staff, a dispatcher and a trucker girlfriend. The way you cary yourself out here is extremely important. Demand respect and you will get it.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
