Got a ten day notice. The outfit I drive for lost their contract as an Amazon Freight Partner. Lots of buzz over why, but i suspect the owner is just tired and wanted out.

So, I give up my ideal 4 on 4 off job and start looking again.

Maybe it's time to find a job as a safety manager... ?

Sorry to hear that. No doubt it can be an emotional time. I think about all those Yellow drivers when I pass a lot with 100's of trucks just sitting there.

Hope you find what you're looking for soon. As men, seems we're preprogrammed to want to work and make an earning and to provide for ourselves and/or families.

Maybe a job change will be good allowing you to experience driving for another company or to change professions altogether.

Good luck moving forward, Mr. C.

Sorry for the unexpected job loss, it never comes at a good time. It would reasonable to assume that another company will get this contract that you speak of. I can't imagine that the loads your company is pulling will suddenly cease to exist and any company that is awarded the contract may need to add drivers and equipment to cover the loads. Perhaps try finding out who is getting the work and apply with them? Who knows, maybe you'll be able to keep the same schedule you love or perhaps get something even better?

Bummer. Sorry for the upheaval in your professional life. I hope you can find something else suitable.

There is an outfit that is hiring for similar positions. Debating the application.

As for changing fields, I don't think it likely. This profession has imbedded itself as wholly into my day-to-day DNA as being a cop did. I don't want to NOT be driving.

Thanks for the positive thoughts, folks. Something will show up...

Posted partly out of self pity, but also as a statement of "Man! Sh*t can SURE change overnight!"

I found a fortune cookie in my travel slouch from a week or so ago. Opened it, and found this... maybe it was a sign?

Take naught for granted, but always look for the plus side of the circle.

I would say to go ahead and submit the application! Of course you know there's no law saying you have to accept the position if offered and you decide you don't want it.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.
