One thing I remember reading on here before I started is that when you show your worth to your company, they will take care of you. I am feeling well taken care of.

I left my last tour early for a vacation with my wife I already had planned. I took a week and a half off no questions asked. I had politely told them beforehand that me and the Freightliner I was briefly in were not getting along.

The day before I came back to work, the Entertainment fleet leader called me with great news. I'd be going up to the terminal my first day back to get into a 23 Volvo. I was ecstatic, not thinking it would happen so quick or be that new. She also said I got full-time Entertainment which was also something I requested! So now doing tours will be my main assignment, and I'll be running regular freight just in between tours.

I am happily settling in to my new to me truck, the kind I want, with only 130k on the clock.

It is said here often to stay with your company, show your worth, and you'll see the results. I can confirm firsthand now how true that is.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

That's awesome, Sandman!

Through your experience, you've witnessed how a motivated driver can get ahead in this industry. If you're willing to put in the effort, make your appointments on time, run safely and efficiently, and get along with folks, you'll soon be a top-tier driver, and they'll treat you like one.

I love to hear stories like this where people put in the work, do things right, and get rewarded for it. I believe trucking companies treat truck drivers based on their performance more than almost any other job out there. If you can do a great job out there, they'll treat you well and you'll have always have a ton of great opportunities.

Great job, man!

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Mr. Sandman, you have obviously NOT been sleeping on the job. Congratulations on getting the “great driver” treatment. Enjoy your new truck.

Thanks everyone! Once I knew my company had this kind of fleet, it was my goal to at least try it out once I had some time in. After a couple tours, I want to see what it's really like and hopefully keep loving it!
