Your congressman is using numbers that are about 3 years old!
We have an overcapacity of drivers.not a driver shortage.
During covid there was huge demand, we ran hard. Tons of people lost their businesses and jobs and came into trucking. When freight leveled off, those extra drivers never left. So now we have more drivers than needed.
Prime nomally ran 14,000 loads a week and rejected about 1000 loads. At the height of covid, prime was running 14,000 loads a week and was rejecting 14,000 loads a week. Now? We are short 1000 loads a week.
Add that to the terrible economy. When things cost more, people buy less. Warehouses stocked up with covid... years in advance. Now no one is buying. So we are sitting until we are needed.
In October, there could be a mass exodus of CDL holders with SAP problems.. but i am pretty sure they are already off the road. So it may not help.
Why dp you hear there is a shortage? Because Biden put driver training in the tranportation and infrastructure bill. And Buttege (however it is spelled) says its a shortage.
Go remind your congressman you live in a red state and he needs to stop watching Rachel Maddow and start asking truckers for the truth.
This is absolutely one of the worst times in trucking history. Many drivers i meet at truck stops all say the same thing. Please stop making it worse by regurgitating falsehoods.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
His congressman should go talk to mine, Mike Collins from Ga. He is the owner of a trucking company and is on the transportation committee.

Kearney, sounds like you are irritated by Mr. Todd Barrow. Don’t feel alone, his comments interfere with my enjoyment of the forum also. Hopefully, his most recent resurrection will end soon.
No the problem is that people will come read his drivel and think it is accurate.
Im a beaming ray of sunshine. I annoy people they don't annoy me.
I'm going to stop giving too much credit to what I read on the Internet. But pray tell me, why should people lend more credit to this particular website than other sources found via Google or my email inbox? Where are the witnesses and testimonials? I don't know anybody in the trucking biz personally to get their side of the story. But I will confess this, I have looked at a few yoo-toob videos of as of late and, by the consensus of them, it seems like 2023-2024 is the total chits for people driving in this trade. My friend who wants to drive is Catholic. He even gave me a rosary as a gift for saving his life last year. He will need a miracle, I now think, from Mary Mother of God, to get inside a big diesel cab as a paid pro. May all you religious folks here keep him in your hearts and prayers. My local Walmart as of late seems to be low on stock on certain things I buy regularly as generic plain yogurt, for instance. There is just that expensive stuff with fancy labels and I ain't paying over $6 a quart for it. If there are too many trucks and drivers, it must be for some other important reason the goods I want to buy are not getting delivered to Walmart.
Think about it Todd.. it is supply and demand. People are trying to spend less. So the cheap stuff is bought and the expensive stuff sits. The stores want limited supplies or the product goes bad.
When dollar stores are closing down.. you kmow it is bad.
And i myself have done some Youtube trucking freight videos with montages of other channels. It isn't good.
Trucking companies are closing.what makes us better than other resources? We tell the truth and can document what we are saying. We dont blow smoke at people to make ourselves feel better. We are the testimonials. None of us get paid to be here yet we are here for years and decades to help new people. They can use the information or not.. but at least we tried.
You are not kidding. I have said that companies are going to need to diversify into many different freight markets in order to stay afloat because of the economy for a month now and I suggested to my company about diversifying into heavy haul to get more income stream coming in, they didn't seem to think that was necessary but the plastics, cement, flatbed, lime has slown down a massive amount since 2022.
I use to be over at Shockeys Precast unloading up to 8 loads a day, usually ranging 5 to 7 loads a day.
Now, if I am called over then that's when I get over there to help with Shockeys but otherwise it's doing a lot of miscellaneous tasks from land maintenance, shop cleanliness to strapping loads when we are called.
Bidens rule is part of the problem the other is not forcing out drivers that are either unproductive or are not proficient in U.S.A. transportation directions and maps relying only on GPS. I honestly think Obama behind close doors is running the show. I don't think Biden has the consciousness to do it. Course that could just be me..lol.

What is a freight drought? How could it be? I keep hearing about how super short we are on drivers. Why do we need even more drivers if loads are becoming fewer? America's population seems to keep growing and growing. People seem to be getting fatter and fatter. Products, often dirt poor, made in China fail more and more frequently and there seems to be more and more need to replace this short-lived crap shelved in Walmart stores and amazon.com warehouses sooner and sooner. I can only see the reduced demands for loads if overall consumption is diminished. Is more and more overland freight going from road to rail and air?
