Most Likely A Stupid Technical Question...

Hey all. Does anyone know how to keep the truck running so I can have AC in a Freightliner Cascadia? I keep getting a notice that says, "Engine Idle Perfoming Shutdown" and then the truck shuts itself off. No way I could sleep later on in 80+ degree weather. I appreciate any good advice! Personally, I think the what-cha-ma-call-it is interfering with the thing-a-ma-bob and it's causing some kinda do-hickey.....but, what do I know?

Doesn’t the truck have an APU? Auxiliary Power Unit.

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

Nevermind. I think I'm ok. I got the truck to be like Optimus Prime and turn itself on and off. Now if I could only get it to transform.....hmmmm.

Ok, possibly one more stupid question. Should I have the key in the on or off position? It had turned itself off when I got that Idle message, then I fooled around and found the Comfort setting and it turned over on its own, but now it's been running for a while and I'm not sure if it's going to shut itself off or not. I don't even know if that makes any sense...lol

I’ve never had a truck with Opti Idle, but that sounds like what you have.

Key has to be ON,& the truck running lol

For an APU , not too sure,I had 1 in my last 2022 FL, it never really worked but once, then it had an electrical power issue.....

Thanks Bruce and Stevo. She's still running and I got it in the on position. The reason I asked is because my trainer has a 2024 International and he had to push two buttons and actually turn the truck off and it would do it's thing automatically. I guess eventually it will shut itself off.

One other thing I found out and it sucks. I have a Bluetooth stereo, but the Bluetooth is disabled....ugh! Oh well.

Another thing James, when you're parked and idling sometimes, the truck will go into an auto-regen... And it will rev @ higher rpm's thru that process, 10-15 minutes. So don't be alarmed when that happens the 1st lol.....Just burning off the built up soot in the exhaust system

And Congrats on getting thru and getting out there solo !! NOW, the real learning curve begins. I'm sure you will do just fine bud, you've made it further than some ever do !! Just be patient, take your time, and G.O.A.L ANY time you need to !!
