James,

Congratulations on completing your training and getting your own truck. You have shown your commitment and dedication to making the choice in occupation work for you.

Like everyone else has stated just be patient, stay aware of your surroundings and above all be safe and take your time. It will all come together for you.

I am glad that it worked for you because if I ever wanted to unretire and return to the truck driving career I left in 2011 I couldn't. I am so old school that I would need a manual trans., paper logs and a Mack with a Maxidyne and a 2 stick tyranny to make it work for me. Besides my hearing is so bad and so is my vision I would never pass a physical.

James, in case you don't know there are 2 settings for Optimize Idle. One is just to turn on the engine periodically to keep the batteries charged. The other is for Interior Comfort, to maintain the temperature inside the truck.

For interior comfort you'll want to first get the cabin to a temperature that is comfortable for you. Then enable Optimize Idle (see photo). Hit the right arrow to turn interior comfort on.

My truck does not do a good job maintaining interior comfort if the outside temp is too high or too low. Luckily my truck will not automatically shut down if the outside temp is above or below a certain temperature. I think the threshold is below 30 degrees or above 75 degrees (although my truck is still idling right now with an outside temperature of 74). For most of this Summer I have been able to keep the truck idling while I sleep. It does shut down if the outside temp drops below the threshold. If this happens I have to enable Optimize Idle with Interior Comfort on.

One other thing I found out and it sucks. I have a Bluetooth stereo, but the Bluetooth is disabled....ugh! Oh well.

You could get a cheap FM tuner as a workaround, I had to do that with my first truck, allows you to run whatever Bluetooth audio through your stereo. Got it at a truck stop with points.

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

You can re-enable the Bluetooth usually by a long press of the phone button on almost all the DEA 500 and 700 truck stereos.

It might be possible that the carrier set yhe parameters to not allow it, but I'm not even sure that the stereo can be set like that.

There are a ton of videos for setting up your stereo on YouTube. Each truck manufacturers have slightly different tweaks to the menu, but it's the same stereo in all of them.

Also, the WX stations are your NOAA all hazards radio stations, absolutely vital information on storms, wind speed and direction, forecasts and severe weather alerts.
