I'm currently involved in a program called free world that pays for your CDL training. I'm in the process of getting my permit, I failed the general knowledge test twice. Thursday will be my third time taking the test. I've studied and taken multiple practice test from different websites. Passed majority of them but sometimes the DMV ask questions that aren't on the practice test like the bridge formula, something about marked vehicles and winter front. They asked about the safety triangles twice with 2 different answers. I know it's 10ft 100ft and 100ft but the question for the safety triangle was 10ft 100ft and then 200ft.. I don't understand how I got it wrong on that one

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Quentin wonders:

The 10/100/100 you mentioned is for emergency stopping on a two way road. (Where there is no divider between "going" and "coming" traffic.)

The one that got you confused (10/100/200) is if you have to stop on a one-way road (or a divided highway with a barrier or open space between "going" and "coming" traffic.)

A simpler way to think of the triangles goes like this: The first one, right behind your vehicle, is always 10 feet back. Both of the other two have 100 feet "attached" to them. Both of them will always be 100 feet out from either the vehicle of the other triangle.

using my keyboard to make a quick illustration:
One way road (Interstate):

Traffic comes behind you --->
A.....100 ft.....A.....100 ft.....A.10ft.[TRUCK]
This /\ is 200 ft /\

<---
Traffic both ways --->
A.....100 ft.....A.10ft.[TRUCK].....100 ft.....A

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

Hi... I am from West Deptford! Nice to meet ya. read the questions very very carefully. they want you to know the material, not memorize the question. Did you do the practice tests on this site? I took the NJ permit test and passed it (9yrs ago) using this site. long story.. but i had to go back and take it in MO and still passed with this site. clear your head before each question and read it very slowly.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I've been practicing and trying to understand the question I've gotten wrong. Tomorrow is my time to shine. Wish me luck on the general knowledge test. 🤞🏿

I would also say read the manual they provide for the test your taking. Everything is in it that will be specific for whatever states test you are taking. Also do the high road training stuff here it is second to none it covers everything and as you move on it continues to ask questions of stuff you have already completed so you don't have large time gaps and forget things. It will also put you on review mode if you miss a question to many times. I have tried about every app out there if you do high road courses here and the manual from the state your taking the test at you will pass.

Just keep trying. The different study guides/practice tests you find online are helpful in the long run, but your best bet is YouTube. A lot of the questions they go over are the tricky ones you don't see on normal study guides
