Hearing Voices

I was moved out of my 24 International into a new 25 Freightliner( happiest day in my life) that does 70 MPH ( until they turn it down at some point) 2 weeks ago and begun hearing faint voices but couldn't really hear what they where saying. I would start hear said voices so I muted radio, wouldn't hear anything for awhile turned radio back on, hear voice again. repeat several times and think it must be on CB even though its not showing any incoming transmissions.

I do not hear it often, so it was hard to track down. it would just randomly come in. Go back and forth between muting CB and radio still no luck. Started thinking I had finally completely lost my marbles and was hearing things. One day last week I was on the my headset with another driver and finally made out what it said "following distance".

Turns out the cameras in the new truck talk to you with "audible" alerts for certain things before it records. Luckily I was not going insane

I don't know how you drivers of today can stand all the new fangled devices in these trucks. Electronic logs , sensors going for everything, cameras watching your every move and now they are talking to you too. I am so glad that my 44 years ended in 2011 before all the follies.

Electronic Logs:

Electronic Onboard Recorder

Electronic Logbook

A device which records the amount of time a vehicle has been driven. If the vehicle is not being driven, the operator will manually input whether or not he/she is on duty or not.

Did you get a Netradyne?

It triggers me for seatbelt violation if i wear a loose fitting bra or none at all. The camera is oppressive towards female breasts. Or, maybe it likes them and wants to keep taking pictures of them.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

OMGosh, yall are too funny. The one thing we DONT have are driver facing cameras. I do like the sensor on the right side of our trucks when something or someone is on your right side, but itā€™s a PITA if that something is a guardrail and youā€™re trying to make a right turn and the truck is alarming and doesnā€™t want to move šŸ˜

I bet you can turn the volume up on your little voice. Our trucks talk to us too. Itā€™s annoying and can be turned way down also.

I had the same experience about 2 years ago. I was listening to a podcast and heard voices that were not in the podcast. I turned down the radio and nothing. Turned it back up and a couple of minutes later I heard something else. Turned the radio down and again, silence. As I turned it back up, I heard it say Goodbye.

I recognized the voice as being the Omnitracs voice.

I backed my podcast up 30 seconds and hit play, and sure enough it set off the voice command function that I didnā€™t know existed until later when I stopped and read the manual.

No idea why it set it off because it didnā€™t sound anything like ā€œHello Omnitracsā€ which is the command to turn it off.

Over the next two years, random phrases in podcasts and audiobooks would occasionally turn it on.

I drive a 2025 Freightliner and I have a love/hate relationship with the safety systems. The LDA sometimes goes off when it thinks youā€™re crossing over the line when in fact itā€™s just weird grooves in the road. I donā€™t mind the side radar usually. Makes it easier when Iā€™m passing a truck and the amber triangle inside turns off letting me know Iā€™m clear.

Thankfully, we donā€™t have cameras inside the truck (except the outward facing drive cam to record in front of you) and it was recently reported that we WILL NOT be getting inward facing cameras as our company considers it an invasion of privacy, especially in the sleeper cabs.

Yep I've been there ! Going to a new company with all this new tech & cameras, I thought I was hearing things too lol. Sad thing about it is that most companies will be installing cameras and other safety lane sensors in/on the trucks for insurance reasons. Company I work for is all in this, cameras tape non-stop inside/outside while truck is running & a certain time period after the truck is shut off. This is because of some accidents (our company drivers involved) the cameras didn't trigger or didn't get enough information before the accident. The company doesn't get on you and nitpick over everything that triggers the camera to record. Taping 24 vs recording is different, recording - red lights flashing - gets a human to watch and judge if it should be passed along to the company for actions or just talking, taping is just on record if something happens they need to go back and look through.

forgot to say about 99% (maybe more ? ) of the time red light recording is nothing and you hear nothing about it.
