I expect a last minute deal as there usually is in these situations.
I'm not sure the union will accept any last minute offers to avert a strike. They really seem to think they have some leverage. If that is true, then you defeat your purpose by settling up easily.
My crystal ball is known for being wrong... so, we will see.
Honestly, I think we'll see a strike. It's one more thing thrown into the cogs of our supply chain madness. Trucking is becoming like investing. Diversification is important. We are being hit on so many fronts. The survivors will prove to be those who can make money off different niches in the industry while other areas are being interrupted.
I'm not sure what impact it will have with my carrier. Most of what I haul is domestically produced and is almost exclusively contract freight. Although we do have dedicated accounts with target and such, though I'm not on them by choice.
Me too Davy...
I have the same weekly route and back haul hauling industrial hose assemblies and non-woven cotton for diapers to and from North Carolina. Unless companies stop needing earth moving equipment for mining and building new developments and babies stop cr*pping themselves I am pretty secure.
My heart and prayers go out to our industry (and many others) that will be impacted by this.
Well, it's about to get interesting. Our President is on the beach eating ice cream while his nation's economy collapses. In all my years, I've never seen such a lack of leadership in the Whitehouse.
If this strike goes on for more than a couple of weeks, we are in huge trouble. I'm literally embarrassed when I see how seemingly ignorant our elected officials are when it comes to understanding economics. I can never determine if they are really ignorant, or if they are working some sinister plan. The latter seems more probable, but why? What is the goal?
The Feds lowered interest rates to help our inflationary times have a "soft landing." Now we are about try a crash landing. This strike will have far and long reaching inflationary ripple effects.
Our strategic oil reserves are at 40-year lows as well.
Get ready for a sh*show. The Teamsters were so bold as to tell Biden to stay the F out of it, not like he's gonna do anything anyway, he's out wandering a parking lot somewhere.
Its really bad, and the fact that we may end up getting four more years of this is terrifying. I feel like we are on the cusp of reaching a critical mass of useful idiots in this country, but I hope I'm wrong.
All I can do is try to stay positive. As a father of 3, I'm not afforded the privilege of being pessimistic. That said, god help us if things don't go good in November.

Ahem, sir, he is at the beach while the Southeast is underwater. Wandering the parking lot was pre-ousting. Not trying to correct you, just updating you. 😀

The dock workers in three dozen ports from Maine to Texas are ready to go on strike starting this Monday, Sept 30.
Port Of New York-New Jersey Details Strike Operations Plan
Wow, if we thought freight rates were terrible already, wait until all of this freight temporarily disappears! Of course, once the ports open again we'll have a big backlog and things will begin moving.
This is going to create a miniature version of the supply shocks we had during shutdowns a few years ago. Nothing moved for a while, then things opened up and everything had to move as quickly as possible for a while.
This kind of disruption keeps creating these mini boom-bust cycles which must make it nearly impossible run a large trucking company these days. You just have no idea what's gonna happen next.
It's impossible to know how bad this will get, but they did say that no contract negotiations are scheduled right now. That's not good.
How many of you expect to be affected directly by the port closures? Are any preparations underway at your company? Have they made any announcements about changes coming?
