Can truckers ever smoke weed? If it gets federally legalized in the future maybe, I see my dad struggling with alcohol abuse and he’s ruining his body and been doing it for years just because he can’t smoke anymore besides that he also started vaping and can’t go without it for a couple minutes? Beer and nicotine is a cheap way to get high and I just want him here a bit longer, any drugs that truckers can take? Like shrooms or something

NO. Drugs and trucking do not mix.

A professional driver has a Safety Sensitive Function, meaning a driver must be fully aware of what is going on all around. Any distraction or "alteration" greatly increases the chance of unsafe operation.

Drink you caffeine, smoke/vape some nicotine, have a bit of alcohol (with restrictions related to your shift/work times), but leave it at that.

OMG!

There comes a time when you decide to try a different career or maybe retire. Or maybe try some sort of intervention. If you're already struggling with addiction, the answer is usually not "what else can I find to get addicted to that won't get me fired."

Honestly, I wish this question surprised me, but with the current views on drug use, it's not shocking.

If your father is an addict, getting out of a truck is the safest thing for all of us, professional drivers, and innocent motoring public.

Just what we need is a drug user wanting to know if there are legal drugs to use as a truck driver. Take the advice that was posted, caffeine and nicotine are your options. If that isn't acceptable to you than check in to a drug rehab program but stay out of a truck for everyone's safety.

Check out 12 step recovery centers near you. Also check out Alanon or Naranon. Support groups for family members of addicts. (Codependents) which are generally more ill than the addict.

Also, addiction is a genetic inherited disease according to the DSM5. The only successful treatment is based off complete abstinence...that means for you as well.
