Hi, So I have a charge 647.6 misdemeanor and I am battling not to be a sex offender. I have 3 other misdemeanors but not related to sex offense. You think I can become a truck driver? I am also bipolar disorder, I wasn't on my meds when i conduted those crimes. But now I am and I am regular.

Welcome, First off given the section you referenced, you must be in Ca.

Depending what county your in will depend on the DA and Judge making an issue of the registration req’t.

Next how old are the other misd’s? Also depending what med’s your on that can be a big issue.

You will have a large uphill battle without a doubt. Apply to companies that offer CDL training and see if any are interested. If one is interested in you be 150 percent upfront and honest with them and maybe they will take a chance on you. Be prepared for alot of no’s. But it only takes 1 yes to get started.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

What if I don’t tell them I have bipolar disorder? My misdemeanors are a year old? I’m 26?

If you're taking meds for it, they WILL probably find it on a pre-employment drug test....The trucking industry is NOT 1 to with hold ANY back ground info about, they WILL find it regardless. Then, you're done, before you ever start

I thought the DOT exam does not test for lithium carbonate, I googled it online and they said they don’t?

You're still required to list every medication you take, and they're going to want to know why you're taking it.

Like Turtle said, you are required to list everything you take (and been diagnosed with I believe) on the DOT med card form. Others please correct me if I'm wrong but lying or withholding info on that could make it invalid making your Class A invalid. Get in an accident, the lawyers are gonna dig everything up and it's not a pretty picture. If you go into this, go into it honestly.

Due to the stresses of this career, the isolation of long peroids of time on the road, varied sleep schedules and dynamic range of calm and peaceful to extremely stressful that occurs multiple times daily, this is not a career path that works well with bipolar disorder.

It can technically be a chargeable federal crime, namely falsifying a federal document because that form we fill out is a US federal document. We sign it, and upon signing it, we are affirming that all the information is correct. The document itself states that knowingly withholding information or providing false information on the document is subject to potential criminal penalty. Doesn't mean that this instance being discussed would lead to a criminal charge, but it could.
