Hey guys,

I drive a 2019 freightliner cascadia. Truck is equipped with a thermoking APU and a power inverter. I believe this model had the built in fridge, but it was removed a while ago.

Have my APU in standby mode currently. The driver next to me just came up to my truck and asked if I would be able to “shut the machine off” when he goes to bed tonight He also asked me if I was alone in the truck. I was on the phone when he came up to me, so I hurried him away rather quick and did not respond to the alone comment.

I’m not trying to wake up with a pulled fifth wheel handle or penny’s in my glad hands. Or slashed airlines anything of the sort. It’s not really hot here, so I haven’t ran the air all day nor do I really plan to.

I have an aftermarket mini fridge (3 cubic feet) a small microwave, and my phone plugged in. Aswell as my ELD Tablet.

Am I able to leave all of this plugged in with the apu off? It would be off for maybe 8 or 9 hours. Not a full 10. I am finishing out a 34.

Now I am also a little irritated thinking about it. At the time I was preoccupied. But…you are at a truck stop. You parked next to me. If a reefer unit parks next to me, I use the drone of the reefer to fall asleep. There are trucks idling all throughout the lot. The APU is right behind the wall I am sleeping behind and is not running constantly. Does not seem like a big deal to me.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

Just ignore the dumass!!!

Leave your apu on and it will only run if your battery voltage drops. Better than waking up to a no start condition.

I once told a guy that my APU was required by law to stay on and power my ankle bracelet while I was on parole for manslaughter of trucker who accosted me with annoying questions. I got manslaughter cause the pharmacy mess up my psyvhe meds.

Shut him up real fast. He wasn't sure if I was telling the truth or not.

It's a truck stop. If he wants peace and quiet, he can go to the Ritz. I love the ambient noise of my APU and love when reefers park next to me. I also love Kearsey's answer!
