Locking jaw not fully around pin any suggestions? I just back up a little harder but is it anything that can prevent it, keeps happening

In the cold weather it is possible the grease hardens and prevents it. Itoo much grease and t turns into rocks. Once i had a metal blade stuck in mine. I had to get to warmer weather or powerwash the skid plate/jaws to degrease it.
