By "pay" he probably mentor that he will cover them so you do not have to. Just using the word pay to mean they are on him not you. Same way you "pay" for fuel using a company card not your money.

Be glad you are getting them. I just finished my mentorship and we went 4 days without showers this last week as we did not have time the runs were so tight. I did 2300 miles in 4 days and the truck did 4500.

He told me he is going to PAY for my showers. My understanding is that when you fuel, both drivers get free shower credits. He is an O/O so is this something different I should let pass? Or should I let him know I have done my research and he is not being as generous as he says? I don't want to start off wrong, but I do want him to know I am not an idiot.

Well if he's paying for the fuel & he's a O/O so yeah he is paying for the showers

Not really, depending on how you look at it, you (or he the O/O) gets a free shower after filling 50 gal. And since you can use 1 credit for 2 showers, it's basicly free either way.

Bottom line is that he may or may not be telling a little white lie is irrelevant at this stage of the game. I would thank him and tell him I appreciate it very much. He is the one who not only holds your faith in your hands but you are a guest in his home. Lets say I was staying over a friends house and he says I am going to let you have this shirt I just bought, but you went with him to the store and it was buy one get one free. Would you tell him he's a liar? And did he pay for it?

Many future truckers on this page talk about how they are dreading living with someone for a short amount of time. Granted living with someone else can be stressful. Did you bother to think of your trainer though, and the impact it is on him? Not only are you living in his truck, he is responsible for your safety and training during this time. Sure he is making extra money during this time, he or she deserves it. O/O"s probably deserve more since you are driving their vehicle. Think of all the extra wear and tear on the truck trainees may give it. Think about if god forbid you have an accident in his truck. Who pays his downtime while getting repaired.

Trainers have a lot of responsibility in my book.Treat them with respect, their truck like its a brand new Cadillac, and thank them for your training any time the opportunity arises. I know that I plan on buying my trainer dinner once a week, as if I was staying at a friends house. I think its a small gestures of gratitude that so many of us have forgotten to do anymore that make for good relationships in the future. I want to show my trainer my best, so he will do his best to train me to be a safe and professional driver. To me this is not _ss kissing, its being polite and greatful which is the least they deserve.

Not really? But the O/O is paying for that fuel & if it wasn't for the O/O paying that fuel there be no "free shower" i think nothing is "free" you pay for it some way or the other.

Also to my understanding fueling these truck fuel tanks are not cheap so I do t understand how it's "free" a shower when you spend sometimes thousands at a fuel pump and in return you get a 10-15 dollar for "free" wow

Wow!! You're getting off good. My trainer doesn't help me with showers at all. $13 a pop at some places. Count your blessings!

Sorry to hear that Hope..Might I ask who you are training with?
