I have a question what will be the main focus when I am with a mentor? Is there anything I can be doing now that will help me out? So much effort and time has been spent to get to this point it just kind of came to me this question. My inspection is excellent was told I killed it my driving is good for a new driver my backing is just okay.

Start reading through cargo securement. That will be huge during your training.

I finished my driver orientation did my cargo securement class got 64 out of 72 on the test and I was supposed to go out today but my trainer is sick so they have extended my stay at the hotel. I will be going out any day now. I did good in the class was leading my team in tying cargo down. Thanks everybody here for the help. For any new drivers out there Roehl is great place to start the company is like a machine always hiring new drivers. They hire experienced new and drivers that only have a permit!

Congrats Paul. That class is not easy by any means. But probably the most important one.

Roehl has been in the training business for many years. They hand pick instructors, or used to. I’ve been gone from there many years, but they were the ones to give me a great foundation to build on in this industry.

Their training and culture is amazing the instructors are excellent. I am very happy with them so far. My FM is very helpful they have newer equipment. I am nationwide which is what I wanted so I can be all over the place. Now I go out with somebody until I am comfortable on my own so the next phase starts now. Cargo securement is a lot to learn on a flat bed lots of details and math to it all.

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

I am out on the road was able to drive a trailer that was loaded up with roofing shingles. I have a trainer that has been at it since 1994 so that is good. It is a whole different world driving with weight back there. I do this for a few days than he said I will do solo loads where he is here but I do everything trip planning all the driving and cargo securement. I have to complete 5 of these without any issues. He seems to think I should be ready in 2 to 3 weeks than I get a new FM and get my own truck.

That is probably one of the easy ones. Low and strap and go. It will get more difficult for sure. Soak up all the info you can from your trainer. Do they still give you a securement manual??

Yea they give us the regulation manual and number of straps or chains needed for sizes and weight. I been out now 3 days got over 700 miles driving so far. Like I said before my trainer has lots of years under his belt. This is a very long trainer program 4 weeks than they keep you close to terminal for another 6 weeks.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
