Let me clear up some confusion I may have caused about straight talk service. There are places out here in the west (including less than ten miles from my house where no one has service) it's powered by Verison for a sheeet ton less money....

Sounds to me like its a great Alternative to Verizon the Money Grubbing Thieves!

I just can't see the point of paying more than $45 a month for unlimited everything...

Hi All,

I'm new to Trucking and will be going to school soon. I'm needing to update/upgrade my cell phone. It's out of contract so I can go with anyone. Which cell phone company do you recommend for the best coverage for OTR usage?

Thank you, Deb C

Does anyone have information on the same deal but including Canada/ US. I am domiciled in Canada, but expect to be dispatched into US regularly. Would I be able to register a phone in the US without a permanent address there to take advantage of better plans/prices?

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Frank, if you know someone in the US who could activate a phone for you might be your best bet, that way you don't have to deal with not having an actual address on this side of the border. If they went with a company like Boost for instance, you could get the phone, have it registered in their name (you'll obviously have an area code assigned to where they live) and then just pay online each month for the service, or pick up a Re-Boost card at any truck stop or gas station. Even Walmart and most grocery stores have them now.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Ve been driving for 6 months and guess what I like to do when I drive..Stream music, (NOTE: this is based on streaming MUSIC ONLY) all day long. I have used all but one service TMOBILE(currently using): PRO's The cheapest service to use, 50$ unlimited data for music, works just enough on most interstates, works well in big cities. CONS: no coverage on the majority of US HWY's. No coverage on state HWY's. No coverage on ANY county route, No coverage in medium sized cities, No coverage in Mountainous terrains, No coverage AT ALL From ILLINOIS and West. No coverage near lakes, rivers, or water At All. No coverage in TX, LA, AL, FL, WV, VA, VT, NY(country side), KY, OH. AT&T: PRO's: I HAVE seen 4G AT&T coverage ABSOLUTELY EVERYWHERE across the country. I was never without music using AT&T. I traveled the backroads of WV, VA, PA, MD, TN, KY, NY, VT, CT, MN, WI, WY, TX, MI, LA, GA, NC, SC, ND, SD, OH, (need I go on) and I'm talking about...places where the ppl don't live in these states and still had coverage to stream music. CONS: I burned 1GB OF DATA EVERY HOUR AND A HALF. Spent 100$+ a month

SPRINT:(have not used yet)

VERIZON: PRO's EVEN BETTER COVERAGE WITH 4g LTE CONS: even more expensive than AT&T Result.. If I were you...get SPRINT. BECAUSE ITS THE ONLY CELL CARRIER THAT HAS MORE COVERAGE THAN TMOBILE AND UNLIMITED DATA FOR 80$ a month. if your cheap like me with TMOBILE 50$ a month unlimited music streaming, STAY ON THE INTERSTATE AT ALL TIMES. I'm currently not listening to music because it can't load, (Bristol, TN, US HWY 421)

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

But Sprints VOICE COVERAGE typically sucks.

I use ATT for my voice and Verizon for my data. Haven't been on the road recently - but when I was - Verizons LTE/4G coverage was hands down better than ATT's.

I have both Verizon and sprint...

Verizon i have 4g LTE EVERYWHERE, with the exception of I-15 in AZ going through the little mountains and I-80 going from West WY border to Evanston. otherwise I get it everywhere. downside to VZW is they no longer have unlimited data, unless your grandfathered in and pay out of pocket for new upgrade.

Sprint, voice sucks, data coverage sucks except when in large cities. I mainly stop in cities so i'll get 4g. I got 3g all through UT on I-15, lost it in WY and got it back in parts of CO, and OK. I also get 3/4g through MO. Any place with hills and its pretty much crap. But I enjoy unlimited data on my iphone 6 for $50 when I get it.

I saved $130 by switching my VZW data from 30Gb to 2GB and getting the sprint data. it works for me. I can atleast watch netflix 80% of the time when i shut down for the night. Downside, no hot spot with sprint unless you pay. Thought of jailbreaking my iphone and downloading a tether app, but not sure if sprint will catch it. guess i could try. lol
