Ok.... I don't know of any company in the oil fields that will train him or pay for the training. One guy I was in school with got a job right out of school. He knew somebody out there though. A buddy of his from the military help him get hired. I would suggest if he wants to go work out there, either give a year to an OTR training company to get free training or go to a private school and get your CDL. I also encourage you to do a lot of research on the oil fields. Everybody talks about how much money you can make. Nobody talks about how much you get charged to live out there. Some places are charging $500 a week for a room in a house. It is very hard work with very very long hours. You do not drive a tractor trailer a lot either. It also will not be considered experience if he decides to leave the oil fields and go to OTR or local trucking. He would have to re do training then.

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Hello I wonder if anyone can help us get started? My husband wants to get a CDL for a job in the oil fields in North Dakota or Texas. How do we find out if there are companies that pay for CDL training? Or is it just better for him to get his CDL then go there and apply for jobs? We would love to hear from any driver in the oil industry. Thanks in advance!
