Before they are published for active viewing they need to be vetted for content cause if I wanted to see entertaining or trashy videos I can log into YourTube and the site would fill up with videos that people thought were interesting but has nothing to do with actually teaching about the trucking industry.

Have any of you guys seen the recent video of that truck that should have tipped over but the driver saved it... I bet he had to change his shorts

I seen it. Anyone that missed it can see the video/story from a local news station here in Mississippi by clicking here or the YouTube video by clicking here

Any thoughts about this anyone? Also I would like to vote yes to your idea of adding a video section to the site Brett!

Agreed 100%

Majority of UTOOB is garbage. Well made (i.e. - high-definition video, quality sound, informative content) videos would be welcomed. Videos that rant or rave about individual companies are useless. Videos that highlight the lifestyle and/or driving techniques and procedures are probably the most worthy, although currently the most elusive.

On a personal note, I really enjoy the videos by Indiana Jack, and most of J Canell's. They are usually upbeat and positive, and as far as I can tell, mostly factual (at least from their own point of view, naturally).

Videos would be a great education aide for those people ) myself included) that learn better with visual cues. Kinda like following a Pre trip inspection around a truck...for those of us who have driven, its a no brainer. But for someone who has never even looked ata truck closely...it would be invaluable. I also agree with Guyjax..But there may be a way to put different videos in different sections ?? Then, if I wanted to watch truck wrecks, I'd go to that section, or trucker jokes, that section....or educational stuff..I'd go there. I don't want to get into VOTING about videos....its cumbersome, and when ya get right down to it, some people's "greatest Movie" might well be some one else's worst commercial. Let Hollywood do all that.

But for educational value....I"d love to see a video of SHIFTING GEARS....from the drivers seat ,so you could see the clutch, shifter, etc. Every newbie struggles with that...and if they could "see" it, then when they do it, they can follow it in their minds eye.

Yeah, I would have tags and categories for the videos just like blog articles do.

I think for educational purposes having some videos would be great. It would not be things like truck wrecks and knuckleheads. It would be things like pre-trip inspections, trailer drop-n-hook, inside the cab tours, and maybe some interesting thoughts and perspectives on the career and lifestyle of OTR driving...things like that.

Pre-trip Inspection:

A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.

Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

As long as it goes sort of by the guidelines in the quote then it would be great. Let's keep the Trucker garbage off this site and let youtube host those type of videos.

Brett I think it's a great idea. I know when I started I learned a ton from videos, but had to weed through a lot of crap to find the good ones. This could really be a time saver for those wanting to see good informational videos.

I assume your just considering linking to videos posted on YouTube? Or are you thinking about actually hosting videos here? I know we are all busy but if some of the members here would put together some decent videos could or would you host them?

I was going to use videos from YouTube but I would definitely be interested in videos our members would like to put together. I'll either self-host them or put them on YouTube myself.
