My guess they have very tight schedules to meet. I used to drive strait trucks locally for 9 years and would often pick up from the fedex terminal in PDX. There would be a line of us local drivers waiting to get our freight, most of the stuff I was picking up was guaranteed priority or overnight. I'm not making an excuse for them driving to fast for conditions, just sharing my experiences waiting on a late truck to get my day going.
That's what I figured. The "hurry up and wait, don't want to be late," attitude.

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
They drive to fast for conditions many times. Snow or ice or both they run full speed when they can. This is just another example of drivers giving companies a bad name.
The reason for this is perception. You notice FedEx and UPS drivers, they have visibility, logos across their truck vs a guy in a plain truck.

I also have to agree with this, seems like I see more FedEx trucks on the road than anything.
