It's good to get your permit first, the physical you do there.

Thanks. That's originally what I planned to do but my DMV said I gotta have my medical card before I can test and receive my class a permit
The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.
Also this might be a stupid question but do you get your medical card the day you do your physical? If so, is it reasonable to think you can get a medical card and permit in one day?
Ya you get your medical card right when you pass the physical. If the DMV says you need the medical card first than its probably your states rule, I'm from Oregon and there may be some differences.

This is what is required in Colorado.
Show acceptable identification and proof of lawful presence in the US Show something with your name and your address (vehicle registration, checkbook, bill) Be at least 18 years of age Show proof of your Social Security Number Show your current DOT medical examination (not more than 24 months old) Pass the required CDL knowledge tests (CDL Study Manual) Pay the $14.00 fee and be issued an instruction permit
As they say..... actual rules may vary....
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
Alot of this depends on the school...some want you to get your permit in their state, and some also do your DOT physical when you come to school....so you might be wasting money you don't have, if you get them, and then have to redo them at school.....decide on your school, then ask them...

I know a lot of companies such as knight require you to have your permit before you start school. Is it best to get your physical and permit before you apply or wait until after you have applied and been accepted? Not sure if companies have a preference or protocol regarding this kind of stuff.
