I'm with your Larry about being attracted to the companies with automatic transmission especially in city traffic but not all companies have automatic so better to learn on a manual, it just leaves you with more options.

Wish you guys all the best! I'm a 37 y/o grey beard and cannot wait to begin my 2nd career. I could take my first career in IT no more. The companies like us 2nd career grey beards ;-)

Sixty-something is not old. One of my instructors at my CDL school was 83. He was old.

One serious advantage to your age is that trucking companies know that the more mature applicants are just that: more mature on the road and behind the wheel. At your age, you're a low risk, especially if you've had a really clean driving record for the past 10 years. Chances are: you do!

You'll have to learn manual but Trans Am, I think, has all automatics. Con-way is phasing in automatics and not investing in any more manuals, so every new truck they buy, from here on out will be automatic... You might have to hunt a little harder for these opportunities but they're out there.

Welcome to Trucking Truth gentlemen!
