When at home I always have a long list of things that I need to take care of - my wife keeps a running list for me of things she would like me to tend to while at home. I'm not trying to make it sound like she's a nag, or a slave driver, this is just our way of doing things - I ask her to keep me a running list because that way I can easily take care of the things that she is concerned about while I'm home. She usually asks me if there is a special meal I would like for her to fix while I'm home, and last week when she asked me that question in anticipation of Memorial Day weekend, I was so tired at the end of my day that I couldn't think of anything in particular so I told her I would think about it and call her the next day and let her know. So after a good nights rest, I woke up in the morning thinking about that meal, and I realized all my girls would be home also. So I called my wife and told her that what I really would like to do this time was that I wanted to cook some steaks on the grill for her and the girls while I was home. Of course she loved the idea, and we had a small feast together. It was great fun having everyone together, and the steaks turned out great. I've still got a couple more days at home before I leave, (took four days) but am already feeling the urge to start hitting it again. This lifestyle gets in your blood and you just feel the need to keep moving at times, but those times at home are very special and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

COOL! Glad you have time to spend with the family! Steaks look AMAZING! I am single, never married, no kids, just nieces and nephews, most grown and on their own, so home time is not gonna be that big of a deal for me. I WOULD like to attend my church at least once or twice a month, but even that isn't a big deal..Looking forward to having my OWN 'trucking' family though!!! Hope to meet a LOT of great folks on the road!!!

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

OH GOD PUT IT IN MY MOUTH.

Somehow the sandwich I just ordered from Jimmy John's just doesn't seem as appealing.

Same here Squatch. I was really thinking how good the JJ's was until I logged on here. You guys sure do make a driver feel better about camping behind a walmart for 2 days.

StarCar, it's actually a smoker. You can see the different levels of shelves in the picture... it's designed to have a small fire in the bottom of it with various meats laid out on the shelves above. It works great for slow-cooking bar-be-que, but I also use it for grilling steaks by putting two racks close together and putting some charcoal on the lower rack while grilling the steaks on the rack above it.
