It shouldn't be a problem to start when you're ready. With the two OTR companies I've drove for, I've just been upfront with the recruiter who called me after I applied online and they didn't have a problem either time with me waiting until after personal issues were dealt with or turning in my two weeks notice. It all depends on the company I guess though. Even after you apply, nothing is set in stone.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Joshua, you can go ahead and apply now and just tell them when you will be ready to start. They will probably have you send them some information that they can work on in the mean time, and they will be trying to get every thing set up for when you can start. People do it this way all the time.

Well last week I went and got my physical and the next day went to the DMV and passed the test for my class A permit. I wanted to go ahead and get these things out of the way as the company I have been looking at requires me to have my permit before I start class. Anyway, now that I have all of that out of the way, I feel I am ready to apply with a company but am not sure of the precise time to do so. For personal reasons, I would rather not leave for CDL school until mid June (after the 16th) but I'm itching with excitement and ready to get started. I just want to get the ball rolling but I'm afraid that if I apply too soon, I will end up having to leave sooner than I want. Does anyone know about how long it takes before you leave for school after you apply or do they usually let you select a date best for your situation? By the way, the company I am looking at is Knight Transportation.
