I'm kinda bummed because for some reason I can't get this move correct without 1k pull ups or start overs. I even went so far as to borrow my friend's pickup truck and a 6x12 covered trailer this weekend to practice in an empty parking lot. Got to school today and still sucked. I understand the concept and if someone tells me "its so simple" one more time, I'm gonna scream bloody murder!

It seems that my depth perception is off. My instructor and most of the guys have been trying to help but, I just cant get it together. Tomorrow we move on to parallel parking and I can't even do a left back alley park for more than one time in a row.

Just needed to vent.

OK, I won't say "it's so simple." Because for some of us it is NOT. However I will say that at some point I will bet that it will come to you, the light will turn on with what you did correct that works for you and then you will be able to repeat it. Sometimes a break or deep breath do wonders and other times it is plain old persistence. I'm having the same trouble with most of the skills. I understand the concept but am really struggling with a difficult clutch, uneven ground and worst of all no time behind the wheel due to truck breakdowns. I know in my heart to not loose faith that it will come to me with practice and patience. You can do it Cole!

Yeah...you can try and try and try...and then its like divine intervention.....BOING !!!! you got it.....weird, I know, but some stuff just comes that way...I think its cuz you finally give up trying to hard, so you settle down, and quit stressing...So just keep at it, practice practice practice..It took me weeks and weeks to get backing down....but it finally cleared up, so I could figure out what I was doing wrong.... Don't let them see you sweat !!!!!! just don't give up....

I had the same problem with alley dock. I worked at it 2 classes a day for 2 weeks straight and I was on the internet for hours a day looking for information/help. I had other students and instructors at school helping me over and over again. Finally the instructor noticed that when I was backing up I would look back in the window to see were the steering wheel was at (to see which way I was turning) in those couple seconds of doing that I would loose the truck . When I stopped doing that I got 75% better then one day the rest just clicked and I got it down. I passed my CDL test today in CT and ready to get driving. I'm nervous yet excited to get going.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

OOS:

UPDATE: Thank you all for your words of encouragement!! I practiced, practiced and practiced. I passed my basic skills test and my yard evaluation. I am more consistent and haven't required more than 2 pullups since my original post. Now about that downshifting.... I'll get back to you, lol.
