Ok, as you may have noticed, I've updated the layout for this forum. If you're on a mobile phone and you've been here before you'll notice it's radically different. The desktop and tablet versions aren't that different. But for mobile - whole new world.

So I'm not completely done with this overhaul yet here in the forum. I did a rough re-styling and opened it back up so everyone could use it and give me some feedback on how it's working.

So if you would - let me know if you're having any major issues, things like:

- Missing buttons

- Hard to read text

- Features that aren't working

....things like that.

I haven't changed anything other than the look of the forum. All of the features are exactly the same. So hopefully it's just a whole lot easier to use on mobile and works well everywhere.

So please don't be shy. If there are problems of any sort, let me know. I'll be working on this quite a bit today so if you see some oddball stuff pop up once in a while it's probably just me screwing things up.

Brett,

It could be I just woke up, but while on my laptop the font seems a little off. A little harder to read for me. If you didn't change that then I'm just not awake yet.confused.gifrofl-3.gif

Brett,

Just to so how not awake I am. I didn't thing to check the mobile site before posting. I just did that and I must say it's looking good...I find it easy to read and to navigate. Sorry for multi posting on ya.

I appreciate it Ahbleza!

What browser are you using on your laptop? Internext Exploror? Because there's a font issue that has to do with Internet Explorer and I'm looking into it now. In fact, I'm using Internet Explorer 9 right now to check it out and indeed the font looks awful. I'll see if I can fix it.

The font should look awesome on mobile.

The individual thread posts are enormous now...As are the avatar pics. I need to scroll down a lot ...not sure I like the new format . Side by side formating is fit to screen though .

I use Google Chrome on a regular basis, both on my laptop and my phone.

On the laptop the font just feels bad, on the phone...like you said, Awesome.

Either way, keep up the good work, this site is well designed, as is your mobile app for CDL Practice. I found it to be extremely helplful.

One more thing though, I'd like to see a way to edit previous posts, that way if you come across a spelling error you missed or need to add something that you forgot (like my post a little bit ago) you can do it easily. Just a thought.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Ok I reduced the size of the avatar on mobile by over 50%. We can show or hide any information we'd like to. I could hide the avatar on mobile entirely or just show certain information in that box. However we'd like to do it. I'm open to all ideas.

Side by side formatting is fit to screen though

Now on that Galaxy Note II, do you get a different layout in portrait versus landscape mode? I believe your device is one of those where if you hold it in portrait mode you'll get the mobile version and if you hold it in landscape you get the tablet version.

I also changed the way I'm rendering the fonts. Do they look decent? Any different than before? I'm gonna check myself here too in a little bit.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Keep it comin!

Allowing people to edit posts after they've been submitted can be pretty cumbersome to implement so I wanted to go an easier, safer route. I put a "preview" feature instead. Right next to the "Submit" button is a "Preview" button. Type your comment, hit "Preview", and you'll see what your comment will look like in the preview window. You can proofread it and edit it all you like before submitting.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

Ok I'm checking out the font now on Firefox and Internet Explorer on Windows 7 and it looks awesome. It wasn't loading properly before but it appears to be now. Let me know if anyone is having a problem with ugly fonts.

On portrait mode the user/avatar tag is longer than the posts. As in manydown scrolls to get to the text post. In landscape mode on you last post Brett...your user/ avatar is like 4 times longer than your post...scrolling down.

Prior to this recent change i did not have to scroll anywhere near as much in portrait or landscape .
