As I pointed out in an earlier comment, Brett has somehow coded in an override for that. Desktop request doesn't work in Dolphin, Chrome, or the phone's stock Chrome-based browser.

No, I haven't. The way I determine which version of the site to show is unaffected by the hack that browsers are using to request the Desktop site. Browsers use user-agent sniffing, which is garbage. They try to report themselves as being a different device. I use a design based on the reported width of the screen, not the device that is requesting the page. So if someone has a browser set at 400 pixels wide they're going to see the mobile version whether they're on a phone, tablet, or desktop. Doesn't matter. It goes by the screen width. So when you use the "request desktop site" feature in the browser, the browser tries to say, "Hey, I'm a desktop browser with a narrow screen" so it gets the narrow version.

I'm going to look into creating an option where you can opt out of the mobile view.

Another issue I am seeing is at the bottom of the page where you can type in the page number you want to skip to. It won't let me type in a number to skip to a page. And as much as I like the comments, I don't want to read them repeatedly. Lol

Excellent - thanks! That was a silly bug that must have been there for quite a while. I rarely jump pages that way....I usually use the "next page" and "previous page" buttons so I didn't even realize those weren't working right - at least the one at the bottom of the page wasn't. But they seem to be now. Thanks!

Other than looking into being able to opt out of the mobile version and cleaning up the styling in a few places is anyone else finding any problems with the new layout here in the forum or do you have any suggestions for making it better?

I don't know how to explain it exactly, but when using the comment box the screen skips and jumps and flips. It's like it jumps up, then back down, then back up, etc. rapidly and repeatedly. It only does it for a few seconds and then stops and stays on the comment box, but it's really weird.

I've been running so crazy lately, I haven't had a chance to comment, but I'm really pleased with the new stuff for mobile users. It's all looking good on my early version Samsung Galaxy. Thanks for the recent updates - I think they make your site much more user friendly since so many people are using mobile devices now - especially truck drivers.

On a side note, I was in Upstate New York the other day and the weather was absolutely wonderful up there - I went on up into New Hampshire for a load of spruce lumber and it was really nice there too. You guys have some great lettuce growing weather (I noticed this because we don't have it in Texas), it made me wonder if you are spending a lot of time in your garden. I think after I've seen what you're doing for the site right now, maybe you aren't in that garden very much, then when I worked my way down into Virginia on my way to southern Arkansas with the lumber, I noticed on the Tracker that it showed you were in Virginia. If that's the case maybe your Ma is keeping the garden.

Keep up the great work, but take a little time to grow some vegetables, you'll be glad you did, and so will your friends!

Just as an addendum, it only seems to do the jumping screen thing when quoting. Like there's something about having existing text in the comment box that makes the page want to scroll or something. It doesn't do it when starting with a blank comment box.

Brett, I don't know if this is related or just a fluke, but I just tried to post a link to an article in the blogs section to the forum and it kept giving me a message that it was not a proper URL address. I tried it several times, and I know how to do it because I've done it plenty of times before, but I couldn't get it to work. I'm doing it from my laptop. I went back and tried copying the link several different times, but never could get it to accept the address.

Ok let me look into the screen flickering and the link posting mechanism.....thanks!!!
