I just tried to post a link to an article in the blogs section to the forum and it kept giving me a message that it was not a proper URL address

Ok, I didn't have the styling right for that section yet and I think the boxes were reversed. So you were likely putting the link text in the link URL box and vice-versa. I tested it with a couple of links and it seems to be working. If it gives you any more problems let me know and I'll look into it further.

it only seems to do the jumping screen thing when quoting. Like there's something about having existing text in the comment box that makes the page want to scroll or something

Ok, what I believe is happening is there's a conflict in the scrolling controls. When you hit the "quote" button to quote someone's post, I scroll the screen down to the top of the comment box and paste their post into the box. When I paste the comments into the box I believe your browser tries to scroll you to the bottom of the comment box assuming you want to type. They're probably happening simultaneously and it's causing it to jump around.

I can't seem to reproduce the problem on any of my devices yet but I'll continue to look into it. Let me know if you see any changes in the behavior or see anything that might give me a clue.

You guys have some great lettuce growing weather (I noticed this because we don't have it in Texas), it made me wonder if you are spending a lot of time in your garden. I think after I've seen what you're doing for the site right now, maybe you aren't in that garden very much

Yeah, we have a great cool-veggie climate up here but no so great for the long-season summer stuff.

Indeed I haven't been in the garden too much yet this year because I'm actually trying a little bit later planting. Normally I plant things as soon as I think they'll do ok. The spring stuff that can tolerate frost goes in as soon as I can work the soil, and the summer stuff that can't will go in the first week in June. This year I'm going to delay the planting of everything until....well....right now! By the end of this week I should have the entire garden planted, or close to it.

The reason I think this might help is because some of the stuff I was planting wasn't growing as well in the cooler temps. I'm thinking that waiting a few more weeks will have them in the ground during warmer air and soil temps so I might get better production out of them. We'll see.

then when I worked my way down into Virginia on my way to southern Arkansas with the lumber, I noticed on the Tracker that it showed you were in Virginia. If that's the case maybe your Ma is keeping the garden.

I have satellite internet and it shows me all over the place almost randomly. Sometimes I'm in Oklahoma, sometimes Wisconsin, Texas - who knows? Apparently I've been visiting Virginia recently? I've been in Attica the whole time.

Oh, and as far as the comment box jumping around flickering....if you're seeing a quick flicker that might be your keyboard starting to show when I paste the code into the box and then it retracts the keyboard right away because I'm not putting the cursor in the box also. I'll try to play around with this a bit more and see if I can hunt it down.

Brett, just curious because I have to use satellite internet at my home also. Which company do you use for your service? I've tried several and still have some issues now and then with it.

I use Hughesnet and it's plain awful. It is literally the worst value I think I've ever gotten for my money. It's slow, expensive, unreliable, and they severely limit the amount of data you can use. I'm on business class and you have to buy $700 worth of equipment and pay $250/month for service. I get 850MB download per day. If I do a big file download in the middle of the night the speeds top out at about 500kbs.

If I had any other options I would love to get away from satellite. The cell networks around here are no better unfortunately.

If you're using a different system and you're having luck with it let me know. Hughesnet is just awful.

Well, I'm afraid I can't offer any helpful alternative. In the past five years I've tried all my options and it sounds like you and I are using the exact same system. Hughes is the best thing available for me, but it leaves a whole lot to be desired. I get a call from my daughter at home about once a month saying "Daddy our internet has really slowed down, is there anything you can do about it?" Once we reach our band width limit it's more than pathetic what you get. It's a terrible value, but it's the best thing going for folks who live out where most folks dare to tread.

I don't have any issues with the keyboard opening/not opening. The keyboard will close if I'm typing and decide to rotate it to landscape so I can type two-handed (or two-thumbed, as the case may be) but I don't think that's the issue. It may have something to do with the amount of space it opens up at the bottom of the comment box after a quote? It seems to add double the space when quoting as it does for just starting a new reply. Maybe it's expecting me to start my comment waaaaaaaaaaaay down at the end of all that dead space?

Ok, I figured it out. When you get to the bottom of the comment box it will resize the box and scroll the page down at the same time. That way you have more space to type but the spot your at doesn't scroll out of view. What you're seeing is the box resizing and the screen scrolling at the same time which is causing it to redraw the screen in a funny way. I'll fix that.

Two issues I am having is the Time Out of each session. As you know it can take a while to write a long post on a smart phone and if I took to long and then hit submit it refreshes and I have to log back in loosing everything I just tried to post.

And the 2nd thing is I understand relogging in if you close the browser. But once I hit the green ok button to long in I have to go through the same steps I would have to if I was on the first page of the website.

Using a Galaxy Note 3

Elog:

Electronic Onboard Recorder

Electronic Logbook

A device which records the amount of time a vehicle has been driven. If the vehicle is not being driven, the operator will manually input whether or not he/she is on duty or not.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

One thing that might be happening sometimes: if you close the browser and then re-open it, the page you were viewing may not refresh. So you might seeing the page the way it was when you were logged in and you'll have the same functionality like starting a new topic or replying to an existing one. But since you closed the browser and re-opened it you're now really logged out even though it doesn't show that. So when you re-open your browser, make sure you refresh the page before doing anything so you know you're logged in. I don't think there's anything I can do on my end to help out with that process. Different browsers and different platforms handle sessions differently. Like I'm using Chrome on Linux. If I restart the operating system without closing the browser it will fire right back up the way I had it and I'm still logged in. But if I close my browser, even without rebooting, I get logged out and have to login again.

Another issue we're having right now is that I'm moving the site to a new template and the two templates don't handle logging back in quite the same. So if you go from one template to another you can have issues sometimes. That will work itself out when I finish migrating the site over.

Try reloading your page when you open the browser up and let me know if it handles it properly or not. It should give you the buttons at the top that let you log back in and you're good to go. I'm going to test this myself right now.

Yeah, that login system isn't working consistently. I'll work on it.
