I understand about closing the browser and then have to refresh and log back in. I expect that.

My problem is once I start to write a post or respond to one and it takes me 20 or 30 minutes to write a long post it logs me out without me knowing it and when I hit submit instead of posting what I wrote it will refresh and show that I am not logged in and need to log in better I can post a message.

Maybe something to look at is an idle timer? Since my last action was starting a post and since I did not hit submit for a while it thinks I forgot about the new posting and timed out. Maybe it's not reading that I am actively write characters in the window.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

it logs me out without me knowing it

Was it doing this before I made the change or did it just start doing this? Does it do it regularly or is it something that happens once in a while?

I'm going to look into it.

It happens enough to know that it can cause issues. It has happened to other people also but don't know if they are even monitoring this thread.

Like I said it has all the chararistics of a auto anti idle features that some games have to save bandwidth by logging out players that are not doing anything.

Since I use my phone 99% of the time I am not sure how much it effects desktop or laptop computers. Only way to test it would be to use an android phone with Google and open a topic like you were going to actually type in the window and set it down for 15 or 20 minutes leaving the window aactive then after the amount of time just hit submit or refresh and see if your still logged in once it refreshes the page.

Ya know, losing the wireless signal and getting it back might do that also. Or changing from one wireless tower to another, or one network type to another. I know at my house my phone changes randomly from 3G to 4G all the time while I'm sitting here in one spot. And if your IP address changes I think it cancels out your session on the server. But I don't have any sort of anti-anything in place to log people out. I don't want people getting logged out. But mobile is a strange beast. The browsers, operating systems, and various wireless networks all throw their own twists into the mix so it's hard to figure out what's causing things like this sometimes. But it isn't me trying to log anyone out. It doesn't use bandwidth or anything on my end if someone is logged in.

When I asked if it's happening all the time, I wasn't inferring I wouldn't fix it if it wasn't happening often. I was just trying to diagnose it. It helps to know if this is something that happens like several times a day or maybe twice a month or whatever.

I'm going to go through the settings on the server to verify I have things setup properly and then I'm going to look into what it takes to keep people logged in on mobile. I suspect it may have something to do with the wireless networks and if so I think I know of some tricks to get around that.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Brett, I actually know exactly what Guyjax is talking about. I've been experiencing it way before you recently updated everything.

It always does it after a certain amount of time (20 min sounds right). In fact, on all my Adventures of Daniel B posts I would always write it out (took longer than 20 minutes) and then I would copy and paste the entire thing and paste it onto another new reply because I know it probably logged me out and it'll delete the entire essay I was writing. It's been happening for as long as I can remember.

Ok I'll definitely look into that and see if I can make sure everyone stays logged in.

The time out has hit me several times also. This has happened from the beginning. Longer post, trying to enter in cell phone or iPad, hit submit and the post would just disappear and I would no longer be longed in. Like GuyJax said, seems to occur around the fifteen to twenty minute timeframe.

Ok, I've made a change to the session handling that should increase the amount of time you stay logged in without activity to two hours. You may have to logout and login again to get the change to take effect. So as long as you load a page every two hours you'll stay logged in until you close the browser. That's the theory anyhow. We're about to find out.

Let me know if it works. And don't forget to "copy" your long post before testing this.
