Pleased To Announce...... Exam Today........TRIFECTA!!!

6 weeks ago I started exploring the idea of trucking, and found TT. On April 28th I called Prime and started the process. On May 12 I arrived in Springfield for orientation. On May 19 I started my CDL training phase. Today I took the CDL exam and passed all 3 parts for a TRIFECTA!!! Oh what a relief it is!!! I am thrilled to have this part done.
Thanks to Brett and TT friends for all of the help and advice in getting to this point on my journey. Next up, meet my trainer for the next phase and head out for my 30000 miles and learning the OTR aspect of this.....and earning a paycheck!!!

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
- Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
- Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
- Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
- Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Congratulations! Is Prime still paying a bonus for a trifecta? I think I got $250 and my instructor got $900 when I trifecta'd. I stayed with him for TnT , we got along well.

Trainer-N-Trainee
Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.
The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.
The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14¢ per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.

Yes it is my understanding they do. The bigger bonus is that I got rid of the most rude, inconsiderate, impolite, and angry-at-the-world person as my instructor..........and that now I get to earn a paycheck!!!

Great. I wrote a thread on here called "The Diaries of Randy J. @ Prime, Inc." You will find some useful info on there to help you through the orientation and training for your CDL. You can call me @ 334-498-0026. I'm gonna be here a couple more days before I head out for my next phase.
There is another thread on here by Daniel P. on how he conducts his pre-trip inspection. It is step by step with pictures and what to say. I cannot overstate the advantage of beginning to learn this. When you have spare time during orientation, do yourself a great service and study it so that you have it nailed down very early in your process. Far too many students fail their pre-trip, the first of the 3 testing parts and that kills their whole process because you cannot move on to the other 2 parts until you pass that first. KNOW IT, KNOW IT, KNOW IT.....like your name.....KNOW IT!!!
I have some other training pieces that will help you with your backing, the other part that trips people up on the exam. This material is priceless. I was given this info on the training pad and I spent less than 3 hours on the pad learning it and never practiced it again before I took my exam. I told it to someone else struggling and they went right out and passed the exam. It works! These two things will set you up to pass your exam after you learn to drive your truck.

Pre-trip Inspection:
A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.
Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.

Great job Randy! I had high hopes for you after seeing how well you absorbed all the information when you were watching me and Ken practice on the pad. I hope I gave you a huge jump start with that!
I hope you do well with your TNT trainer, remember there are hordes of trainers that are looking for a student, sometimes for months, so if you don't like yours you can easily get a new one. Don't force yourself to suffer during this phase.
