I have had multiple DUI's in the past. My last driving offense of any kind was over 20 years ago. I have noticed on a lot of company sites they say no more than 1 DUI in a life time. Will my past stop me from having a future in the trucking industry?

It depends on how many is multiple. Some won't hire if you had one. 20 years is a long time ago. I know a company that hired someone after she had two DUI's, the last one being 20 years ago.

Im not sure maybe 5 or 6 between the ages of 18 and 35. I would have to obtain a copy of my driving record. My point being that was 20 years ago. Since that time my life has completely changed and my driving record is spotless. I am 55 now.

Ken, its gonna take you a litle diggin' and searchin', but you will find a company that will discount the DUI's from way back when. Now that you've finally "grown up",there should be a outfit who will take a chance on you. I'd have the same record as you from back in the day. But I ran around drunk in country that had more cowboys than cops....so I never got caught....There but for the grace of God go I. Keep tryin'...you future is out there..... And ask for any help you need here.....we'll be glad to assist !!

Thanks Starcar, for your transparency and encouragement. Im sure there is a company open to the idea of giving a person a chance. Im in no hurry I have employment that supplies my needs. Thinking I may be open to a career change in a year or two. I spent most of my adult life travelling and working all over the U.S. I would like to get paid for travelling and I am a loner by nature. Thinking trucking would be the perfect next career for me.

TSB and I usually ran team. But there were times that I took the truck and ran a month or so, just to get some freedom. I'm by nature a loner, so it was perfect for me. Give me good tunes, a comfy bed, and no breakdowns, and I'm a happy girl....And as it turned out most of the time,2 out of 3 ain't bad (dang breakdowns). I will admit tho..I hadta invest in a screaming meemee...I sleep like the dead when I'm in a big truck, moving or not....don't know why...I musta been a fuel tank in a previous life....

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
