It's totally situational. In a minor accident like this I grab the phone and call the cops cause the first thing they will ask is if they are OK. And I want the cops on the phone in case something happens when I walk up to the other vehicle as a way of covering myself plus I have my trusty dash cam.

I have another video that I got off of my cam on my computer but I need file converting software to transfer it's from .MOV to .wmp or at least mp4 so I can edited it down. Since it's a 3 minute video and what happens takes place in the first 20 seconds the last 1.5 minutes is almost not needed.

Hey Guy - nice driving-truly saved the day for a lot of others with your skills.

What type of camera do you use? I have been checking out the Go-pro's, but I know there are many different ones for sale.

The drive cam I have is not longer made. The link below is to their flaghip camera. The main difference to the one linked below and mine is the one linked has GPS and also tracks your speed.

I'm going to invest in one......people are crazy and most of time they are going to blame the other driver no matter what! Do you only have one came ? Do you plug it in? Do you leave it on the dash at all times? Well I guess I mean if it holds up to the heat and or cold well? Really we all should have one. Thanks for sharing.

Once you start driving professionally you realize that 99% of the drivers on the road with you are idiots. They run stop signs, don't signal, tailgate, don't stop at the stop bar but in the crosswalk, cross multiple lanes, and any number of other terrible driving practices. I had 3 cars pass me on a city street across the double yellow lines going over a blind hill, just so they could cut really closely in front of me at the red light at the bottom of the hill. I guess my 5mph OVER the posted limit was too slow for them. Still wish I would have had a dash cam for that, was crazy.

I frequently have people who run stop signs while talking on the phone, but so far I have avoided an accident by being hyper aware and letting them roll on through. I have to drive through suburbia to get to one site and it has all these traffic circles that no one knows how to use. I take it slow and think to myself, these people really don't want a hazmat truck speeding through their neighborhood where their kids play etc, even if the car that is 2 feet from my rear bumper seems to think I should go faster, I dont.

I have had people stop a car length+ past the stop sign and into the path of my oncoming hazmat truck. Then they sit there and look at me like its my fault they are a horrible driver. The police do nothing. I think I will invest in a dash camera, seeing your footage Guy has made me realize how great it is to have that footage if you are in an accident where its not your fault and there was really no way to avoid it even though you tried. Having good situational awareness that the left lane was open allowed you to move over and try and avoid it, but she just kept coming. Overall you did all you could do and SHE ran into YOU.

A good friend has a saying I like when someone is tailgating you, "If you're late you need to leave the house sooner!" Trying to remember that people often see a commercial vehicle as the reason they are late, and not let it bother you or get you to drive unsafely, is a big part of any new drivers self training.
