Finally I found some spare time to update this thread! I've been running like an absolute maniac lately.
Well, last week I ran so hard that I burnt my 70 hour clock before I can even get any recaps back. I expired my 70 hour clock in 6 days. Needless to say, I was forced to take a 34 hour reset in Reed City, MI.
Let me tell ya, Reed City is a gorgeous place! Just not in the winter time. I sat at that lonely truck stop all day long with nothing to do. No internet!
73 degrees outside! Perfect weather!
So what better thing to do then go explore this small city in my bike? I rode along the road until I found a small dirt trail creeping into the woods. Couldn't turn it down!
Lets get started!
This is the trail. I must admit, there was a small fear inside of me. Just too much trees, too many places for an animal to be. Its like, is something staring at me? I looked around constantly.
Forest. Forest. Forest.
Barely stepped foot in here and I'm already finding prints!
Found a small area that's bare. I can actually see the sun? I know it doesn't look very thick, but this place is dense with trees.
Just a nice view.
Umm, that says "Keep Out"! Not only that, but that tree just looks strange. So what does this stupid Russian do? He continues onward.
Its not exactly easy to ride here. The dirt is very loose, almost like sand in some places. Which leads to a lot of this. That's me skidding. I never fell but I definitely drifted more times than I can count!
Jackpot! A gorgeous and isolated body of water. Look how clear that water is!
Another picture!
Let me just point out, I have a day off! Nothing to do! The average trucker continues to sit on their ass all day in their truck, meanwhile, Daniel B is exploring and getting some exercise. So I ask you, isn't this the best way to relax? All alone, nothing but bird noises around you. Peaceful, quiet, no diesel fumes - my kind of day!
I find this strange structure. Now I have no idea what it is. Its very small, would probably only fit two push lawnmowers. I checked inside for dead bodies and found none. Perhaps someone knows?
I also found this wagon. Completely rusted. The rubber on the tires is stiff and I doubt it would be able to travel a mile without blowing. The wood is completely warped and lots of it is mangled. Weird. Creepy.
Hope you enjoyed it! A bike is one of my best purchases. You haven't seen nothing yet in that seat. Step away from the truck and ride to the places where a truck can't fit to see the real beauty!
Operating While Intoxicated
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Looks to me like a duck/hunting blind. Judging by the location and brush pile in front to cover it up. You hide in it when hunting. I would suggest you wear a high resolution safety vest when you are on your adventures, if you don't already. You ride through hunting territory often on your adventures and you need to be careful!
Thanks for sharing, some nice Country you've seen.
Update coming soon!
Anyone who remembers Evel Knievel will REALLY want to see this next update of mine!
I am always waiting to hear about ur next adventure Daniel b.
Location: Snake River in Twin Falls, ID
In other words, its where this happened.
Evel Knievel Attemps to Jump Snake River In Twin Falls, ID
Yep, 40 years later I was there! I'm sure most of you remember this. I can't even begin to explain how beautiful this place is. Its a combination of awe and fright. Stunningly beautiful but these cliffs and elevation turn your stomach upside down. That guy must have had balls of steel to even attempt this.
And it begins...
And immediately it goes straight down! I know it doesn't look like it, but I'm standing on this rock and if I fell forward I would probably fall and roll straight down the cliff. It gets real steep, real quickly.
On the left of this rock I'm standing on. The wind is almost pushing me off of it!
See the waterfall in this one?
Beautiful!
A close-up of the river.
This is the bridge that goes across. Scary bridge. Hardly any shoulder and a million miles from the bottom! Or at least it seems!
Looks like a million miles to me!
A picture of the river from the opposite side.
The bridge itself!
It was very difficult to capture this picture because this particular area is fenced and I had to stand on my toes and snap pictures without being able to see my phones screen.
I'm crossing the bridge and snap a last picture of the river. Breath taking.
I make the mistake of looking down. I got slightly light headed, no joke.
And your bonus picture is!!!!! I sent Old School some pictures before I posted them. And naturally, the old man with a cane gives me this. For anyone who doesn't know what he's talking about click this link.
Lol I remember the day Evel Knievel tried to jump that. I was fishing with my dad at Storm Lake, Iowa, and we took a break to listen to it live on the AM radio.
Great pics! I've never been there, but really want to go now. The bridge might not be so fun though...
Hold your horses, this isn't a 25 picture update.
But here's another benefit to having a bike.
I parked in NE with about 5 hours to kill. I took out the bike and my fishing gear, yes I pack that too, for fun of course. I got to the water in no time!
I hit up a lake/pond in the area for some relaxation. Just because you're a trucker doesn't mean you can't get out a little! Enjoy your life out there folks. There's more to life than driving and money.

So apparently I don't know how to properly copy and paste a link using my phone...
Anyway, found myself YouTube exploring tonight and came across a video about abandoned sections of the Pennsylvania Turnpike that are now used by bikers, runners, and hikers for recreation. It made me think about this thread since it would be a perfect opportunity for a driver to get out and get some recreation like you do (I know you don't run back east too often, but maybe somebody else that runs this area a lot could take advantage). The one video was a group of bikers that started out in Breezewood at Lincoln Highway/US30 and rode a 13 mile section that was closed and bypassed in 1968 and includes two tunnels (Rays Hill Tunnel was the name of one of them). I thought it was pretty cool how they could actually explore the abandoned tunnel and take a closer look at the inner mechanical workings. Stuff like that appeals to my nerdy nature , what can I say... :-)
Anyway just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who might want to explore a bit. Breezewood, being the busy little intersection town that it is has truck parking so this is definitely doable for somebody who is so inclined...
