hey guys i know its been a while. i just got back in the country last friday and i should have about two weeks left in the navy for my outprocessing and then ill be ready to start school. I know i said i wanted to go with prime before but ive looked at some different things and im leaning twards flatbedding with melton. for starters they have a decent starting pay for rookies and during my first year there i will get BAH under the military apprenticeship program. For those of you that dont know BAH is pay for military or those using their G.I. bennifits that is tax free and is made to cover the avg housing cost in your area.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Thanks daniel b. thats what ive heard. from most of what i hear the only time complaints come from their drivers is if they have a crappy dispatcher and that can happen at any company.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Melton is a great company. I have been with them for almost a year now and have nothing, but good things to say about them. If you work hard (as we both did in the Navy), communicate and get the job done safely they will take care of you. It isn't all roses, but what job is. Knock on the door of 9118 if you see it at any of the terminals or elsewhere.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Haven't been back to Norfolk since I got out. Got to drive through Pendleton a couple of weeks ago on I-5, though. Don't hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns before or once you are out on your own. There are a couple of us Navy types here working the road and help where we can.
