I was wondering how swift pays their drivers . I've heard it is put on a card. Do they give you the option of direct deposit to your bank account or no.

Yes.. when you get hired you will receive a ComData card. That is used for fueling and for your check. You can set up direct deposit as well. First two or three weeks will be on card. You can also get comchecks from your DM or any truck stop and use those for pulling cash off your card and deposit in your bank account. Trainer should explain, may also ask them.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

I setup my direct deposit my first week that I was with my trainer and my second check was the first one that was deposited to my bank. You can set it up on a kiosk in any terminal and you can split your check between comdata and your bank. I have mine setup to go 95% to my bank and 5% to my comdata card. So far each of my checks have been deposited before 5 am on Tuesday morning

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Here's a comdata check.

comcheck diagram

And here is a link on how to fill it out. Pretty straight forward.. Filling out comdata check

When you first get your comdata card, call the number on the back to establish a pin. At least that's what I had to do.

You can have your wife txt you the comdata check number or give her your comcard number and pin and she can call and set up the "draft" as it's called.

The bank will have to call the number on the check and get the auth number. It makes it more secure for them. I had an issue with my bank when I did it .myself. they had to call the support center to confirm which took extra time.

I don't understand the whole ComData concept. My paycheck is on the same card that I use to pay for fuel??? I might just be overthinking this, but it sounds like I'm paying for my fuel. Can someone please give me the "ComData for Dummies" version, please?

Your not paying fuel.. simmple as that..

With the com card, when you slide it at the pump, you'll input your driver code, truck number and trailer number(depending on company) and it registers as fuel purchase which goes against the companys account. When your dispatched on a load the company will set a limit to how much fuel in gallons you can get at a certain truck stop...

Now if you use it at the atm and input your pin number, it's used as a debit card. It has two "accounts"..

I hope this explains it better...

It basically has two accounts on it with two different accesses.

Kevin. Great question! My mentor, at swift, just answered it today. Look at ComData as broken down into two purposes. One it's your company account. Just a like your debit card. Second, it's a unique identifier. When Pilot or TA read its barcode they simply know who to bill for the expense. By adding some of your personal ID a paper trail is established. Hope this helps. I too was rather perplexed.
