I appreciate your drive I am not going. To be the jerk that tells you. That you should not drive.you are right you are on prescription meds most of the blind test show that pepole on meds for long period s of time are more alert. Myself HAVE BEEN ON PAIN MED for 10 years trucking gave me a reason to try and get off.and I am so happy I did. This may not be the case for you .But I would encourage you to try.Just giveing you my too cents. Hope it all works out for you
You can take pain pills and ADD meds. It requires a doctors to note stating that he knows your medical background and knows that you will be safe driving on the meds for most things of this nature but not all . they have a list of things that require this . Ask your medical examiner to look it up , not your doctor . the examiner knows where to look for the proper info . I take ritalin . It is not on the list . I do carry a doctors note any way because most cops are just going to think " amphetamine " and that will cause you problems . Ritalin is not even included in the drug test . Adderall is an amphetamine . You will require a doctors note and the medical examiners approval to take it . As an added note ... People with ADD are 45 to 47% more likely to have an accident if they are not on meds . The rate of accidents is decreased by 41 to 49 % if on meds .
I am currently fighting to kick the drug Effexor. This is one of the hardest things I have done as the withdrawal symptoms are egregiously terrifying. One of many reasons I am kicking the prescribed drug is because Werner will not let me drive for them while taking the medication. I am unaware of any list yet they are concerned that I "might" become drowsy as a side effect of the medication. I NEED to be employed badly. I have every endorsement on my CDL-A and have had the Tanker and Hazmat on a CDL-C license for four years. Werner has been decent enough to give me time to quit my meds but if I could get a new driver entry level career started elsewhere I would be gracious. I most certainly do not wish to have a short term career of attending paid orientations that end with unemployment when they won't give me a route after the medical exam. I never had an issue obtaining a medical card in the past yet the Doctor at Werner said, "No!"
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
FEDERAL LAWS SUPERSEDE EVERYTHING!!!
Werner will not let me drive while taking Effexor. I am desperately fighting to kick this drug and it is egregiously terrifying as it is causing panic attacks of which I have never experienced ever in my life. I wish I could get them to allow it while I try to kick. I need to have a job and right now my life is on hold as I am unemployed. They are being decent patiently waiting for me to kick the drug still ot ****es me off as the fear is that I "might" get drowsy. I have been a driver for 8 years with a damn near perfect MVR while taking this damn drug. My family is suffering and I don't know what to do. I can't make a career out attending orientations and ending up unemployed after each.
An MVR is a report of your driving history, as reported from your state Department of Motor Vehicles. Information on this report may include Drivers License information, point history, violations, convictions, and license status on your driving record.

How did it all turn out? I hope you are on the road driving! I am in the same situation and have the physical and drug test coming up. Was the letter from MD enough for Dot and preemployment? Or did you have to do something differently or change your meds? Thnks!
