Gerrit, welcome to the forum!
This is a question that comes up fairly often in here, and I can only think of one person who ever came back ant told us that they finally got their CDL in the U.S. - if I remember correctly he was from England. It's difficult (next to impossible) to get a work visa to be a truck driver here since the U.S. government classifies truck driving as a low skilled labor job. One further difficulty in this pursuit is the fact that you will have to hold a standard U.S. drivers license for one year before you can attempt to get the CDL. It doesn't matter if you hold a truck drivers license from another country or not, that one rule makes it problematic for many people when they realize they have to get here and then find some other way to earn a living for at least one year before they can start working on getting the C.D.L.

I am new to the forum and are from South Africa. Anybody out there from my part of the world. I would like to convert to a CDL in the USA. I have already spend hours and hours on the worldwide web. It doesn't matter witch page you open it seems that every state has its own sets of rules.
