I use to work with Knight Transportation and for the most part it was positive, I really like their daily pay and training program once you get your CDL. They actually cared about your training and made sure you learned and could succeed as Driver for them before even being issued a truck. That's pretty impressive compared to a lot of these other companies out there that are eager to push a lease on you or get you on the road making them money.

I'm no longer with them and neither is my trainer, we both moved on to something that would better suit us but I would highly recommend them. I would also like to mention that they are extremely picky about who they hire.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Yea, dont get nervous smile.gif

Try to look at it this way, you are interviewing them. There are tons of places to start a career in this business and YOU can choose any of them. If you are a solid person with a good background, work history and driving record, you will have no trouble going to the one of your choice. They expect you to have questions if you are new to trucking.

One thing I can tell you is dont feel like you are bothering them if you have questions and need to call them. The recruiters are really busy so it can be difficult to get in touch with them. Be persistent and keep calling if you dont hear back from them after you leave a message and haven't heard from them. Give them 24 hours and call again if you haven't had your call returned.

Make a list of the questions you have so when you do get to talk to someone, you cover everything.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Welcome Richie,

I went through the Knight CDL training in Olive Branch, MS, completed their Squire training program, pulled dry van for two months after completing the training, and I am now pulling flat beds with a dedicated account with Knight.

I documented the CDL and Squire training in the training forum. You can find them by searching my name using the forum search.

If you have any specific questions, send me a PM. Most importantly, keep calling the recruiter. For some reason they seem to forget about applicants.

All your post I have read is very moving and motatived me to begin a new chapter in my life ... At least a start :-(

I believe I have chosen a reputed organization that can and will train me into being a successful driver ...

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

EPU:

Electric Auxiliary Power Units

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

Knight is a good Company to start out with but in order for them to pay you a fair wage you will have to stick with them for a very long time. I got the itch to leave right around my 3 Month mark because I saw the potential to make even more money and it didn't help that I had all these other companies offering me a New Truck and Higher Wage.

Good Luck!
