Definitely sounds like you have the right attitude. When I was in school my trainer was also x military as am I. I always liked the straight forward no nonsense way of communicating. We had one guy that just couldn't take his style, he quit and tried to get the trainer in trouble for picking on him. They even question those of us who were with this trainer and asked if we wanted to switch to a new one. My reply was, I'm here to get my CDL and be a truck driver. His job is to train me. Doesn't matter what approach he takes because if he does his job I'm going to succeed.

Welcome to the world of flat bed and Melton. You can't learn enough in your yard or on the road training. The first 3-6 mo is the most difficult. After that it is just hard work!

Be flexible and patient, communicate with your DM and life is good. See you out here at some point.

Thanks. I hope to see you out there sometime. I know it's going to be tough and I get nervous just thinking about me out there alone to figure things out. So I am going to pick my trainer's brain for all I can get.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Just a quick update. I have been too busy to really give a good report on how things are going and what has happened. But.......

Tomorrow morning sometime, I get on the trainer's truck and we head out to Connecticut. We would have left today, but the truck had to go to the shop to get something installed. Maintenance had to install a CB radio for the trainer. You may wonder why now. Well, here's why:

Thanks.

I hope to keep something going but I am not sure yet how the schedule will go with updates. Hopefully, I'll be able to post something. If the training all goes good, I'll get my own truck in about 21 days!

Congrats on breaking in the truck. The 680's are the new truck for our fleet. They are starting with the trainer trucks with condos and then the mid caps for the non-trainer trucks. I'll keep my eye out for ya!

Thanks all. I hope to learn as much as I can. I am already preparing my mind for the months following when I get my own truck. I am expecting it to really "suck" at first. But I am also in Melton's support system being at my fingertips to help me along when I have questions and when I get stuck on some of these Rubik's Cube loads.

I can show you my trainer. He appears in this video around 23 seconds into it.

My trainer is in this video.

How exciting! Woo-HOO! Great job! Keep sending those positive waves!

That truck is so pretty, it falls into the category of "purdy!" ... Now that's a great way to put your trainer into a great mood before you "move out" to your 3 week run. Sheesh! My favorite kinda' blue, too! Shiny new toy! Wow.

I cant' wait to see more! I got my prehire letter today! I still have to attend my tech college and get my CDL so I won't be out there for a long time.

Prehire:

What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.

A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.

During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.
