How long should it take a bunk heater to warm up? Otherwise I am going to have to idle this truck.

Ours are blowing hot air within a couple of minutes and roasting you within 10 min.

Should only take it about 3 to 4 minutes to warm up BUT if you are under a 1/4 tank of fuel then it will not warm up.

That is good to know. However, even after idling for about five hours, I am between 1/4 and 3/8ths.

Here's what ya do call ur dim let them know what ur bunk htr is doin and that it needs looked at,ask them if its OK to idle or if they want ya to get a hotel room.it will go as smooth as ya allow it meaning keep a cool head and speak nicely.most likely ull be in a room if the temp is to low.

Normal policy from what other drivers tell me, is the truck has certain temp. perameters. If you don't have an APU , you can idle your truck, and it won't automatically shut off after 10 minutes.

I just tested it out, and it works fine. I figure maybe a fuel line froze or something. Headed to Idaho tonight or tomorrow or the day after.

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.
